Used BassCat 4 stroke vs. 2 stroke

I have found two used BassCats that I am very interested in buying. They both have low hours (less than 50). Both boats are in almost new condition. They are Sabre models.... one is a couple years newer than the other. I really like both boats.... the 4 stroke is $5,000 more total price. I am leaning toward the 4 stroke but I really like the color of the 2 stroke boat better. They both have the Mercury Pro XS engine in 175 hp. Any advice to help me decide ???? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! I have no experience with Mercury engines.....

I would imagine that the 4 stroke motor would move faster when it comes to resale time!

5K isn’t chicken scratch. But the warranty is probably gone on older motor. The 4 stroke may still have one and it might be able to to be extended. If warranty is up on both, that 2 stroke is almost bullet proof and better on gas then the 4 stroke. The savings are offset some by cost of DFI oil needed for 2 stroke. Resale on four stroke might be an advantage but I guess it depends on how long you intend to run the boat. Either is a good choice IMHO.

Knowing the dependability of the two stroke, we would consider it heavily as they were very good and it should last beyond your ownership. Check warranty and that certainly matters and has some value.

I wouldn’t hesitate in either. Believe the 4-stroke 175 makes a little more torque, so maybe a little better hole shot if you carry a heavy load though it also weighs ~50lbs more. So if planning to add power poles then the 2-stroke probably would keep the boat a little more balanced when fishing. The longer lower unit on the 175 4-stroke I think helps a little on top end driving stability, though I know speed isn’t a big deal to many. Just some things to consider, but don’t think you can go wrong either way. Do you happen to know what props are on the two as they have very similar gearing?

Hey Guys,… Thanks for all your input into my question. It is greatly appreciated! After doing more research and talking with other guys… I have decided to get a larger boat. Probably going to order a Caracal… possibly a Pantera 2. I think in the long run I will be much happier with the larger boat….
