Voltage Drop when starting:
We have one to add, if you are finding the ignition (starting) knocks power too low for graph operation, then we suggest a small copper washer (2023 standard item) on both terminal posts bases. Apparently over time the terminal lugs become incompatible with the Mercury bronze buss bar all the wires gather on at both terminal posts. The small copper washers against the terminal lugs resolved this issue.
The low power issue is not the battery failing, it’s a simple connection issue that has been sorely misdiagnosed. This has caused premature battery replacement, often with batteries that have a lower grade RC than the 245 RC we install.
The standard AGM meets the Mercury USA standard for MCA and there is often confusion with the International label. most batteries that meet the International standard do not have high RC ratings and will not handle long term usage of multiple (4) graphs.
Since about 2015 Bass Cat Premium models have had a separate harness for graphs and power. The original 2015 boats had 6 gauge to the console where a brass terminal block exists, and we connect 10 gauge to the bow. All connections in that harness are soldered with fine high grade tinned wire to reduce corrosion.
This should be more than ample and it is important that you reduce the run length of the actual graph harness as those are extremely small wire and cause many of the unit power problems. They just don’t have the connections on existing electronics designs to increase wire size.
About 2020 or 2021 we shifted to 6 gauge and 6 gauge with terminal blocks at both the front and console.
On Newer 2023 boats we upgraded those connections and corrected a terminal issue we found.
I’ve had this issue (2018 Eyra with 3 graphs) and have also had issues with the outboard not starting if I go a few hours without use. I have an X2 Power 31 series AGM battery that is about 1.5 years old. I took it in and they tell me the battery is good. You think the copper washers will fix this? If so, thanks for saving me ~$500!
It certainly could resolve the issues. It generally has to do with a connection issue on the main posts.
