Water in locker in front of driver console

Couple of possibilities I believe-#1- leak of box lid itself- tightness of cams on lid locks can get leaks if any rivets are close- but cant remember if you have any rivets at all up front underneath the lip of the top cap before you get to the sides of the box#2- leak at front tm splashwell drain tube.Lay paper bag or newspaper on carpet once you get it dry.go to a carwash and test the troller splashwell first.Test the box lid second.C.O.D. Thanks Ward, will do. I noticed some water drizzling out from under console at higher speeds and it wasnt the speedometer cable. I did have that come off a while back and reconnected with a strap and it is solid. So I am guessing that the water is leaking out from the front locker in question or maybe the speedometer cable also has a crack or something somewhere on the hose itself. Think that this is two seperate issues but not 100%. I know that I did have a good splash come over the bow and water partially filled the TM well then drained earlier this week. I will do the test to determine if that is the issue.http://www.vrbo.com/297770

Once I forgot to put the drain plug in and also didnt turn on my bilge pump. The boat sat at the dock for 20-30 minutes and a lot of water came in the boat – all the way up to the bottom of the floor board. All the compartments were dry except for the storage in front of the driver console just like yours. Somehow water got in though I dont think there is a drain hole in those compartments.Did you have anything like that happen recently?

The tops are supposedly sealed, though the washers on the hinge bolts can work loose and allow leakage. The issue is usually either a lock leaking, sealing washers loose or the adjustment of the cams. The center and rear storages are totally sealed from the bottom on all pre 2011 models, the rod boxes are open to the front. When water is in the bilge it can travel through the drain and splash around each side into the rod boxes, though not the center and rears, seats too. There is a leak potential at the center seat pedestal on some models also. Any leakage in those must come from the top down on 2010 and earlier. Thus the brown paper in the storage and we suggest a dousing of liberal water, by the cans full all at once. Then when it drains off, open the storages and see where the leak is. BCB

BCB that makes sense. I had a wake from a yacht on the intracoastal come over the bow Sunday. It didnt come over all that much, but enogh to fill the recessed foot control well, I was fishing at the time so unlike being on step and skipping over I rode em out which swamped me a little. Youd think those big ass yachts would slow down, but nope. But my guess is the swamping put water in the bilge and riding down put it all forward which put the water in the compartment.- Chaz

That doesnt fit my water in the rod locker.It wasnt raining and didnt get swamped by wave. Didnt drive it except idled from ramp to dock. Water came from the bilge to the rod locker from underneath. Front of the locker was dry, just the back part near the console was wet. No big deal though as I dont plan on leaving the plug out and launch boat any more.

When you back off the throttle any water in the bilge extra can jettison to the nose of the boat through the same drain channel that allowed it to go to the rear of the boat. Sort of like those truck bed liner inserts! Let the rain water build up in one, and then hit the brakes, yes it gets your back glass a little wet. Though here is goes to the nose and splashes to the rod boxes somewhat. Not a lot, though it can some. The newer models have a foam black filling that center area, though it can move some also when wet and filled with water. Though it will prevent the sloshing. BCB

I had the same problem in my drivers side rod box. Only wet in the back of the box, and maybe had 1/2 gallon of water. Number 1, I dont know where the water is coming from. None over the bow, none from rain, no rough water. I am pretty certain it is water rushing forward from the bilge. But how is it entering the rod box. Also, checked the drain plug, in tight. The auto bilge does not cut off. Constantly runs (when on). Didnt see any busted hoses in the bilge. Is there any chance a back flow valve is allowing water to come in? I need to unstick the float in the auto bilge pump but I cant tell which pump it is, even feeling for vibration when it is on. My boat is a 2005 Pantera IV.
