Water Separator Filter Replacement Question

Ive not replaced one on the 200 but no way would I empty the old one and put it back on. Filters are cheap insurance. You may want to pump some fuel into a glass jar and let it sit a while to see if you have more water in your tank IE: got a bad batch of gas. The water/fuel filter on my 175 Opti is about 20 bucks and not hard to replace.

ii was told if it went off across the lake to take and empty just to get you back to the landing. alarm will go off but filter is still full of water.

Ethanol separation has caused more problems than anyone realizes. We would remove the lower sending unit in the canister and drain the water. Then replace the sender and go for it. If you remove the filter you shake everything up. If you drain the center, you only drain the bad portion. We doubt there is a fuel trash issue, though more likely ethanol, thus we would not really be too concerned. Plus if it has more water and ethanol in it, you will be replacing another canister soon. Once you go through this a few times we would replace it.

I tried to remove the probe but was unable. ( I broke it trying to remove it ) So I will be buying a new filter and probe kit.Are there any tricks I should know about removing/replacing the filter.After I remove and replace the filter/probe is there anything I need to do to “prime” the fuel system?

Some fill the canister though some just pump the bulb, on an EFI its not critical.

Rob at Dupo went over the water separater when we picked up our boat. He says theyve tested some of the gasolines in our area and found that Shell, Quick Trip (whod of thought), and another brand (cant remember), were lower in ethanol. I asked him about BP Amoco (my brand), he said it was one of the higher ethanol levels, at least on the lower grades.Last edited by kramr on May 4th, 2010, 12:35 pm, edited 1 time in total.

The bulb was behind the battery which is why I didnt see it last night.Got the water sep filter changed also.Off to Douglas Lake Tn tomorrowThanks to everyone for your help
