what do you look for in your jigs.

I am VERY picky on my jig but I have to say your jigs look good.You have a lot of good looking colors offered. I might have to try them out sometime!!! I would describe more about what I like in a jig but people like WARD might find out and start kicking my butt, LOL wait everyone that read my “In the boat column” knows what i use. I am very picky about my jigs and the things that I look for are as follows: 1. HOOK!!!!!!! If it does not have a good hook then I will not even give it a second glance. What is a good hook……..HEAVY and at least a 4/0 2. Will this jig come through the roots and weeds? IE…A pointed shape that will lay flat with the plastic pointed up is the best that I have used. 3. Weight….I like a 5/16 the best and that is hard to find these days. 4. Colors…Black/Blue, Black Neon, Watermelon, Watermelon Red, Bull Bream 5. As long as the weed guard is longer than the hook sticks up, I can trim to the way I like it. This is specs I like to see while fishing the cypress jungles. ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud

Its all about matching the right jig with the right fishing situation. You want a heavy wire hook when using a heavy rod, heavy line and heavy cover. You want a lighter wire hook when fishing open water and lots of line out. Even more so with light line. In heavy cover you want a jig that has some what of a narrow head and the hook eye is in line with the hook. Not a flat eye hook that I use on a football jig in open water. That kind of hook works better in that kind of fishing situation. That is why I offer 2 kinds of hooks with every jig I make. Swim Jig, Football Jig and Flipping Jig. Take Care and Good Luck

One word…Jewel Jigs…actually that is two words. Most copied jigs on the market.

Two things: Good hook that will hold its edge, and cheap price so Im not afraid to throw them anywhere. I only use two or three colors, and I use the trailer to make color “adjustments”.

I have yet to find the perfect jig that I can buy at a store; therefore, I choose to make my own jigs set up the way that I like them. The most important thing in a jig, in my opinion, is the hook. You have to have a hook that is big enough to do the job and extremely sharp. I will say, however, that the best jig that I have found in a pack are the Eakins jigs. The funny thing is that one of the Bass Cat employees has been making this jig long before it ever hit the market. Jewel makes a good jig but I started making my own a couple years ago just to save some $ and I cannot tell any difference on how many fish I put in the boat ( which is not very many) I have about 0.75 in a jig compared to 2.50 that gives me about $200 a year BCB $ or latley it has been gas $.
