misr12, What prop were you running. Have Sabre FTD with 175 ProXS with a Mercury Fury 24P. Hole shot and mid range is great.  Problem is top in when you get in the 65 mph and up that sucker will really walk.  Can’t decide if it is prop, motor heigh, or my driving skill.  Anybody have suggestions.

My 2011 FTD had a 25 Trophy Plus. Great holes shot and handling. Very little chine up to the max 69.4 mph.

My JP was flush. A JP that slightly low will have less steering torque and the chine will usually be a little more sensitive to control.

Its all about steering torque and water pressure.

Thanks, Cajunhunter 67 I checked my JP and it is flush.  Steve’s Custom props on there web site has a correct way to measure motor hight. I will check mine to see how it compares to what they say. Might have to try a different prop or have mine worked. Would like to get in the 68 mph range with out chine.  I don’t want to chase the rabbit but like to get away from the chine.  John

Almost any high performance bass boat is going to chine when trying to get those last 3-5 mph. At WOT, the Sabre hull packs a lot of air under it, so when you reach 65+ it is literally almost flying…very limited amount of pad in the water.  The bottom line is you can always back off the throttle or trim down a touch to avoid chine walking, but IMO the boat should be set up for maximum speed and correct RPM and water pressure at that speed. Mine will cruise all day long at 60 mph with no chine at all. I normally run 50-60 mph depending on water conditions, with the occasional WOT brief runs.  Mid range acceleration, if set up right, is unreal in the Sabre.

72 mph gps with 2003 Sabre and 2006 175 Optimax. I was running a four blade. I probably could have got another mph or two if I would have ran a three blade.

That was me, John.  I wasn’t sure if that message went through as I’m trying to navigate this new Owner’s Board myself.  Your 24 Fury is probably the most preferred prop on the Sabre.  I ran one, and it pushed my boat faster than any prop I’ve tried.  I’ll send you an email, and maybe I can help you out.

On my 2008 Sabre/150HO Etec I was turning a 24p Fury 5850rpms, Wpsi at 15lbs and prop was 3″ below pad.   Zoom!  That was so much fun back then.

If you have a need for speed you’re gonna chine you way to get there.  That is not a boat issue that’s the boat falling off pad and the driver countering it with the steering wheel to keep it on pad.   Least how I figured to to get past chine.

Tick, Tock, curious how today’s Etec150HO G2 would spin a larger pitch prop on a SabreFTD.  It’s got more torque to spin it.  The only way to find out is to do it.  Tick, Tock…..

I think this could apply to more torque 4S Merc 175.  I have no clue but would be how I would approach it on the new Mercs.
