Looks like previous owner didnt have one color wire, so he picked and chose from what he had. Also, as mentioned above, the twist wire nuts are not appropriate in a boat/water environment. As to finding a ground wire, a voltmeter is your friend. Place the red lead on a good hot and probe the black leads.
