It is highly unlikely your 24 volt system would have to do anything with the electrical system on your outboard. Im betting the reason you had the previous work done is still present. A good mechanic is what you need to seek. Good luck!

Ok BCB have another question . When I had the stator and new regulators done back a few months 4 to be exact my mechanic told me to unhook one of my battery cables going to the motor when not in use. I posted a question on here if any body else does this and BCB responded with ” some do and some dont we recommend a banana spade or blade switch ” . So installed one on my battery. My question is, when i unhook the blade switch and i turn my ignition to RUN position on the switch my fuel gauge pegs out to full , But when I hook the blade switch up the gauge reads like it suppose to.On my cranking battery I have a ground and hot wire that leads to a terminal block mounted on the transom could that be bad causing what seems to me a dead short or could it be in the key ignition switch? By the way the boat is 1992 P2 with a 1999 225 Merc promax sport. Thanks

We suggest everything go through the banana spade bayonet switch. If not then the gauge is grounding out.

Thanks for all the advice. This has been so frustrating these past few weeks trying to figure out the problem . I was able to take the boat to the mechanic today for him to look at. Even him seems to be puzzled by the way the gauge is acting . Just a question to you guys,The banana bayonet blade switch is on the Ground side if the battery should it be on the positive side instead ? or does it matter as long as the circuit is broken to the motor. tie in on one battery . you will have 12 volts . i run my hyd jack plate that way.

Looks to me like that mess will have to be traced to sort it out. You appear to have a red wire (hot?) and two black wires (grounds?) in a wire nut (not appropriate for a boat wiring harness).I do not remember the color code under the dash for the wires you are questioning but others will weigh in I am sure.

This is unrelated to your bird nest of wires, but Alan C, Lowrance rep who I believe runs a Bass Cat told me to hook up my Point One to the Master Switch below the throttle on my Sabre FTD. I did and it worked very well for me.Dan

Thanks for the replies. This boat had a previous owner and I took it to the shop to get my graphs installed so I have no idea what they did previously. It does look like a hot wire connected to two grounds. Ill have to trace them back and see whats going on there. MeanV2, thats what I figured but wanted to see where I can hook my ground into. I figured those wires were ground wires. Ill just splice into a known ground then

I added a shut off just for for units as well as a switch to the side scan box to brake the signal when not using the side scan. It the yellow wire on lowerance electronic. Looks like previous owner didnt have one color wire, so he picked and chose from what he had. Also, as mentioned above, the twist wire nuts are not appropriate in a boat/water environment. As to finding a ground wire, a voltmeter is your friend. Place the red lead on a good hot and probe the black leads.
