What worms are you guys using for drop shotting? How about the Robo worms, colors, sizes, etc? Any and all inputs appreciated. Thanks, Joe
The guys at Robo Worm are good guys. They are also “Family” members. The most popular colors in the Robo Worm series are probably Oxblood Red and Aarons Magic. There are other colors and the variety is in the length also. Dont be scared to nose hook that longer worm though. BCB
I cant remember the color but when and if I have to result to drop shotting it is normally to late and I have already lost I like the Robo worm FX sculpin in 4″ in a shad type color or the Aarons magic.Good luck…I think I would rather go to the dentist than dropshot all day Judd Lasiter
Judd,I agree, drop shotting is a different kind of fishing and it is not for everyone. It requires a tremendous amount of patience but can be rewarding, especially on highly pressured lakes or on days when the fish are in the lock down mode. Im certainly no expert but am trying to learn aspects about the technique. It seems to be something that can be fished from shallow to extremely deep and can potentially pay big dividends. Thanks for the responses so far and hopefully there will be more.Joe
I like the robo worm for some things( dark green with chart. tail works good around here), but I have found that the Strike King 3X is a great bait for drop shotting. 4″ finesse worms in your lakes favorite color is hard to beat. They are about impossible to sling off and they seem to take a tremendous amount of abuse. They are really good when you are just nose hooking the rig. I have won a fair amount of money just slowing down and learning to fish this. I have tried several different types and in a casting situation this would be my pick. The rest of them rip at the nose to easily and you go through several baits and eventually loose your patients. Only one mans opinion, so good luck and God Bless!
4.5 inch straight talied worms in aarons magic, charttruse dawn and greenie weenie are the best drop shot worms on the planet in my opinion!!!! do yourself a favor and get you some, you wont regret it! they have changed my fishing for sure!dannyg
In the 50s my cousin and I adopted a method of fishing for fresh water. It was refered to as the yankee rig. Because northerns that came to Florida used it in saltwater. Place a weight on the end of the line and the hook about 10″ up with bait. We used a heavy weight becuase the bait casters and nylon line wouldnt get the lure out to the fish. We used this on various Florida lakes and were quite sucessfull with the Creme worm and and a pork rind eel made by Johnson. My best sucess with drop shot (yankee rig), has been to cast to shore and retrieve about 2 ft, shake your rod tip and reel 2 feet. The fish usually hit on the shake. Fish all the way to the boat. Robo 4″ anything in aarons magic or prism have been the best colors for me. Hooked through the nose is also best. Dont jerk to set the hook. When you feel the bite sweep the rod to set the hook. Wacky rig also works on drop shot by hoping the weight 1 to 2 feet off the bottom and letting it drop back down. When fishing is tough or in clear water drop shot is the way to go. Good luck.Martin
Joe -Deep down I have yankee running thru and thru, I just act and now live like a bubba I grew up in IN and fished up there and was using a drop shot, jig head worms and wacky worms before it really was popular.Funny thing is when I moved to TX in 02 I had more spinning rigs than baitcasters and was harassed for thinking 12lb test was big line Boy, how the last 6 years have changed me. I did pick up a spinning rod last time I was at the lake but now I refer to them as skippin rods cuz that is about the only time I use them now. Someone mentioned the 3x Strike King finesse worms…those are awesome for shakey heads. Thanks for posting because I will look at some of the other colors mentioned here.Judd
I used to drop shot a lot out here in AZ, but have moved away from it over the past couple years. I still go to it from time to time, but do more jig fishing than anything else right now as I am trying to better that. Still a noob when it comes to the jigs. When I do drop shot I use the robo worms. Aarons magic always produces something, usually rats, but fish none the less. I also use the morning dawn, Margarita mutilators and oxblood. Usually if I am night fishing I will use the black grape color and have some good success with it.I have caught my bigger fish drop shotting wacky style with bigger senkos.Jason Desertdweller.com Get Your Bass in the Boat!
