Yellowing white gel coat

Fairly common occurrence. Not a manufacturer defect. The white pigment in the gelcoat will eventually “yellow” or fade. Depending on how bad it is or how much it bothers you, I think I have read where it could be improved with a rubbing compound or if really bad, wet sanded gently. Would have to check with BCB on that. I had a white top cap boat and it did show some signs of fading/yellowing about 9 yrs after I bought it. Good luck. i dont know if this is the same issue but my boat is a 96 sabre that is pretty much all white and when i got it it had some yellow and dingy stuff on it from the water lines and my father in law has owned master crafts his whole life and he told me to use a certain type of toilet bowl cleaner and sure enough as soon as you rub it on it turned completely white, if you try this be sure to wash it off as soon as you are done as to not affect your gel coat. And be sure to give it a good wax because it takes it off and do not put it on any colored spots also be sure to give her a good wax as soon as you are done because it takes the wax off when you do this. Again i am not sure that you have the same problem but i hope that it helps.

The yellowing is a natural process of polyesters. Just like a milk jug exposed to the sunlight, the UVs tend to yellow all gels. You dont notice it as much on some flakes and colors, though they all do it. You can bring back any of them some. It takes a little sanding and polishing of the gel coat lightly with 1200 paper. Though if it is a good deal on a 10 year old boat, swing for it. You can figure out if the gel bothers you and if not dont sweat it. If it does you can take on a winter project if you desire. BCB
