I appreciate Bass Cats quality construction but Im asking questions to help me understand the differences in specifications. Im looking at buying a bass boat and want to make sure I understand all the differences in models and makes. For my fisrt question: During my research of Bass Cats I was told that the Puma FTD rides better at topspeeds than the Puma because the gas tank position is in the rear as opposed to under the seat in the Puma. Since the Cougar FTD gas tanks are apparently located the same as the Puma FTD then the ride at top speeds should be the same. Is this a correct statement? For my second question: The definition of beam width is “The beam is the width of the boat at its widest point”. I have not put a tape measure on either boat but just looking at the two boats they do not look the same width given the 1″ difference that is so stated in the brochures. I have stood in each boat and the Ranger seemed much more wider. Either I am missing something, seeing an illusion, or one brand measures beam width differently from the other…I would find it hard to believe that the position of hte trolling motor foot pedal would cause an illusion like that. It sure seems either the Ranger is wider than 95″ or the Bass Cat is narrower than 94″. Thanks for you input.

Again – Im just asking a question about the specs. I think the Bass Cat is the best boat built so you dont have to sell me. I was able to put a tape measure on the beam. Sorry but it was not 94″ wide. They need to correct the brochure because stating 94″ width is misleading. Boy, do I wish Bass Cat came in a wider boat. That would be the perfect bass fishing machine.

I had to vote the last option. A Puma FTD with consoles that have pockets on the side to lay rod tips in to give another 12″ of space for big feet up front, the ice chest/step like the Cougar but still have the net storage, and perhaps a 45 gallon gas tank so you would have a cubic foot more rear compartment storage rear with bigger lids…that would be perfect for me.

What were the colors of Marty Stones boat? It looked like hull=silver and hull insert=black. Was the trim stripe also silver?

A helmet would be nice going down the lake but I wont wear one. If I happen to hit a log under water or rogue wave that throws me from the boat, last thing I want to be wearing is a helmet. Imagine what would happen to your neck at 70 mph if the helmet struck water on the bottom…snap! I use ski goggles.

I wonder if you put some lead up front if it would pick the back end up or just push the front end down? If you have about 12″x12″x1.5″ slab of lead that would weigh about 100 lb which I think would equal about 15.7 gallons of gas.I was interested in seeing responses to this post as Im wanting to get a new boat …..if my job will hold out. But Ive narrowed it down to either a Puma or Puma ftd when that does happen. Ive read many differences between the two models like: 1. Puma rides better than the ftd and has a more solid feel because of the tanks in the middle.2. Puma ftd rides and handles better in rough water ad is a little faster because of the tanks in the back.3. Cant tell the difference in ride between the two.4. Puma ftd only drafts 1-2″ more than the Puma. Not sure about an 03 Cougar ftd.I guess in other words I wont know till I test drive both.

I printed BCBs response and put it on my wall to remind me to save my money and keep my job The guy says he can re-carpet an entire boat using 24oz including glue for $300. Cool! I would like to find that deal!I found it somewhat funny the guy who made the original post was Marcus Clouse. Does Gary have a brother? He also said the boat he is comparing uses AME 5000 resin fiberglass. Makes me think he was talking of the Phoenix boats. There is no relation between these individuals, Marcus is from the west coast. Gary is from within about 50 miles of the BCB facility.Last edited by 1958 on February 2nd, 2010, 11:34 pm, edited 1 time in total.

SheffDid you solve the issue with rods under the TM? Can you explain what was going on there? Was the TM hitting the reels or what?Reason I ask is I have a minn kota on my present (not a BC) boat and my friend has a motor guide. I was looking at them and the minn kota seemed to ride higher whne stowed than the motor guide, so I had more room for rods under mine. It made me wonder about your issue there. Thanks

I have seen some motorguides with a small rod attached to the motor near the head and props it up higher. Called a bounce buster rod. Not sure if you could use something like that but thought I would throw it out there.http://www.iboats.com/Motorguide-Bounce … _id.392122

I feel where youre coming from on color selecting. Ive been preparing for the “day” and trying to decide on what colors. Theres endless combinations. Ive been doing like they said – looking at the owners galary. The color selector cant do them justice. Slate looks greenish on line but gray with sparkles in pictures. I try and try not to get too crazy and keep the number of different colors down but it gets to be like a kid in a candy store.Does anyone know of a picture of sand on a hull to look at? Ive seen sand as an accent but not on a hull or cap.

I did that on my boat once. It didnt drain any noticable juice because nothing else was on except the master switch. An over night charge should be fine. I think you get the most charge the first couple of hours then it tapers off. That was my boat anyways.

High Cotten. Another thing I have, and I recommend this to everyone, is to get one of those jump start battery chargers. I picked one up at wal-mart for $35. It saved me once on the water after not stating the motor for over 4 hours and running sonars, live wells. It was the end of the day and went to crank motor….er…er..er… Just hooked it up and varoom!Definitely a must have.
