PM sent, wondering where you are located. Ill be in Tennessee first week of June.
Thanks for the information, Ill do some more research and figure out exactly which one I want.My son is 15 and obsessed with fishing. He raced motocross for 8 years and I finally talked him out of it a year ago. Weve been fishing out of Hobie kayaks but I dont think thats going to cut it much longer. Hes trying to start a fishing team at his high school also. I think every high school around us has one except his but pretty sure thatll change soon. Hes working on starting one right now. I grew up fishing and its something we can do together like the dirt bikes so Im all for it also.
Cbumpilori wrote:Just what are you looking for and what are you willing to spend?? If youre looking for a high-end premium boat, i.e. Puma FTD or Eyra you better be ready to plunk down any where between 45 – 55k depending on the year and model. It really depends on what I can find in the used market as far as condition and price. If I cant find the right 2005-2010 boat Ill get a newer model and understand Ill pay more for it. Im interested in two Sabres but the price difference seems to favor the newer model (2015) but it really depends on if theres any flexibility in the asking price. I have a 5th wheel toy hauler and which model boat I get may depend on whether I keep the 5th wheel or not. 5th wheel was bought new last September but I bought it at a great price. Id kinda like to get something in the $15,000-$20,000 range but will go higher if I cant justify the age/condition/price of an older boat vs. a newer one. Kinda a different topic but Im from Tennessee. Lakes were very nice there but Im not a fan of east Texas lakes. Shallow, stumps, nasty water, so I just cant see buying a $70,000 boat for the lakes around us. If I were somewhere else Id probably get a different model boat, most likely a new one. So, to really try and answer your question I prefer a very nice, clean, well taken care of boat in the $15,000-$20,000 range. If I cant find exactly what I want Ill go newer and higher in price if needed. I will say Im extremely picky but Im willing to travel to get what I want. I didnt state this but maybe itll help you guys inform me of really what models I should be focusing on. I want at least 18 feet in length, prefer dual console but its not a must have. Again, Im pretty new to the current bass boat scene and even newer to the BassCats so I welcome any suggestions. Ive emailed a guy several times about a 2003 Cougar in Austin but Ive yet to hear back. That seems to be the norm dealing with Craigslist ads. The condition of the boat is way more important than the price. I wont buy one in fair condition no matter the price.

I fish the Great Lakes often so I went with a 20 fter but all depends on your needs. The market has been slow in the early to mid 20k range for the last 6 months it seems, but there are some bots still for sale.Take a look at the Pantera 2 and pantera 4. The 4 was the initial boat I looked at but theyre hard to find especially in my area. Good luck! The searching can be frustrating but when you find it youll know. My girlfriend of says I love my boat more than her.. She could be right hahaLakes around here seem to be wide, very open, with no protection from the wind. So, they get very rough, at least they are rough compared to what I was accustomed to being from Tennessee. I hope I dont offend anyone but the only way I know how to put it is, they suck. But, I know its all relative and the fishing is good but Im not a huge fan of the lakes. We will travel around some and explore other lakes though. I could possibly be moving to Colorado in about a year but thats not definite.
Im going to call Tuesday and see what they say, not sure Ill have time to go by one of the offices. I thought there would be an office nearby but looks like Id have to drive in to Houston. The trailer is simple and I have registered about 7 trailers over the last 7 or 8 years. Just trying to figure out the boat and motor. Ill fill out the three forms I think I might need so Im covered.
adchunts wrote:Just did this (Arkansas to Texas). Submitted my boat registration in lieu of the title, as Arkansas does not title boats. Also turned in my Arkansas trailer title.Just to confirm, all I need is the registration from the previous owner lieu of the title? So, registration, forms 143 & 144. Ill call also but Ive found out most of the people I call working in a government office are cluesless about things like this. Thats how how I understand it from the excerpt below. The seller must: Complete the tax affidavit portion of the Vessel Application form PWD 143 (PDF 228.8 KB) and/or Outboard Motor Application form PWD 144 (PDF 175.9 KB), sign and date each form; and If the boat or outboard motor is required to be titled, the seller must provide one of the following in their name: MSO (if brand new); or Texas title; or Out of state title/registration (whichever is required by the previous state)
Today is such a sad day for so many families. So many sons, daughters, fathers, mothers lost and it just seems so crazy how many lives over the years have been lost. I had a friend killed in a T-38 training accident, one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Ive been thinking about him all day. I cant imagine what his parents must go through but they know he was an outstanding man, a real hero.
Thanks for the replies. I called the Texas Parks and Wildlife and was told I needed the owners registration, forms 143 and 144 needed to be filled out, and a bill of sale for boat and trailer. Lady said the motor and boat could be on the same bill of sale and the trailer needed to be on a different bill of sale. She actually said they could all be on one but the preferred method was having the trailer on its own bill of sale. The prices for the motor, boat, and trailer do have to be listed separately.
Thanks, stopped by Bass Pro right up the road and bought a cover. I have the boat here now so didnt want it to go uncovered. Its definitely not the best cover but itll do until I can get a custom fit one.
I just bought an 08 Sabre last week with a Mercury 150 EFI. Ive had it to 60 with me and my son, full tank of gas, fishing gear. The only thing I wish it had was hydraulic steering. Ive discussed adding it with a retired Mercury mechanic who does some work on the side but not sure its worth it.
milt wrote:How did that BPS cover work for you? Been looking for something to cover mine with while in the slip at our lake house. Its a covered slip, but bugs at night and bird issues call for something, but not necessary for trailering. Just something I could reasonably draw tight sitting in the slip. 06 Sabre, dual console. Its not bad, I havent used the straps yet. Ive just been putting it over the boat when not using it while we are camping. Its serving its purpose. Its definitely big enough and no issues fitting.
Are there states where you dont have to pay sales tax on used boats? In Texas Im going to have to pay tax on everything including the trailer. Plus, the trailer has to be registered and tags are required along with an annual state inspection of the trailer over a certain weight. Id like to register my 5th wheel and boat in Tennessee. Just my personal opinion but I was willing to pay around $25000-$26000 on the 15 Sabre otherwise I was either going to buy new or an older boat. Just my perspective on a boat that new.
Boat ran perfect up until yesterday afternoon. Boat was checked out by a mechanic right after I bought it and test drove it. Fuel lines are not the original ones, they were replaced by previous owner. Replaced the spark plugs and boat runs perfect. I took it to a local mechanic who could not find anything wrong with it except he stated the spark plugs could use replacing and recommended replacing them because he thought that might be the issue. He said the 150 EFI is known to foul plus occasionslly. I went and bought 6 plugs and everythings fine now. Mechanic did check compression, throttle position sensor, fuel pressure, and found no codes whatsoever when he hooked up his computer. Super nice mechanic, cost me one hour of labor which I thought was very fair for what all he checked. Last edited by C130 on June 14th, 2016, 11:14 pm, edited 2 times in total.
