Thanks Phil Addison and GAPuma. Mr. Addison has been very helpful as I have gone through this process of making up my mind which boat to purchase. My goal is to put all of my reservations to rest and order my new Puma (or Puma FTD) this week. I am on vacation all week and will probably perseverate about the decision until Friday. Geez, this shouldnt be this difficult of a decision. At least I have the brand name down. Next decisions are engine, trolling motor, and electronics. I think I will have to go into therapy with all of these decisions. My thinking right now is Mercury 250 or ETEC 250HO, Humminbird 997 and 797 interlinked, and Motorguide 24 volt tour edition 82 pound thrust. Thanks again guys.
If Mr. Pierce and Bass Cat recommend the full length motor toter, that is good enough for me. He built the boats and should be the authority on what is best for his boat.
Basschaser; Do you run three or four batteries with your 36 volt system? I was going to get a 24 volt system just to keep from having to lug around a fourth battery. I have had good luck with 24 volt motorguides in the past while fishing southeastern lakes. I just moved to Texas a few months ago, and these Texas lakes might be better suited with a 36 volt trolling motor.
The Detwiler clips referred to by Tideman work great!!! I used them on past boats with Evinrude engines and the clips perform exactly as they should. The clips allow only about 1/8 inch movement on either side.
I immensely appreciate the assistance provided on the Mercury 250 Pro XS versus the Evinrude 250 HO. It sounds like they are both great engines. I considered several 2008 used Bass Cat boats, some with Mercurys and some with Evinrudes. I decided to order a 2009 Puma FTD with Mercury 250 Pro XS engine. Again, thank you for all of your assistance and time. This entire Bass Cat family seems to be a fun group to work with. I hope to meet you guys at next the owners tournament next year.
I just filled up in Temple, Texas at $3.59 for regular Shell gasoline.
Will a 09 Puma FTD pull a Tempest plus 27 that was balanced and blueprinted? I ask because I have such a prop as my spare. My Puma will be rigged with a 26 Furey, but I may try the 27 Tempest Plus just for fun. I can not wait to get my boat!!!! Corky
I am quite sure that Bass Cat recommends the Mercury Fury 26 prop. I am ordering a boat similar to yours, a Puma FTD with Mercury 250 Pro XS, and Bass cat recommended to me a Fury 26 pitch. Bass Cat will be along in a few minutes to assist you. Corky
Man, with the price of gas going so high, that 36 volt trolling motor is sounding like the smarter move. Now if I could just figure out a way to save gas pulling the Bass Cat with that big V8 that resides under the hood in my truck!!!!!! Even if gas goes to five dollars a gallon, which probably will happen soon, I will still have to fish. I guess I just suffer from the fishing addiction. Have you guys heard of any fishing annonymous groups in Texas? Corky
Thank you Bass Cat. The jackplate is a Bobs 8 inch hydraulic plate installed at Bass Cat, not a 10 inch plate as I originally posted. I am sorry about the mistake. I take it that wedges would not be needed for an 8 inch hydraulic plate either. It is very nice to be able to come on this board to get assitance. I appreciate your feedback.
First of all, I must say that I am impressed both that you even know who I am and are taking the time to address this issue. I have done many of months of research on Bass Cat in general and this particular boat specifically, and I know for a fact that you guys build one heck of a boat. I do not know how this will progress either, but I am thrilled that you guys are going to “move the ball.” Whatever the outcome, I really like your boat, and I have been most impressed with representatives of your company with whom I have spoken. I thank you for the time you have spent in delivering high quality customer service. Corky
You know, that is the kind of story that makes many so cherish the Bass Cat name, and should be the kind of story to inspire other companies to match Bass Cats philosophy and service. Bass Cat is certainly a class act in every regard. I have had several conversations with Mr. Pierce and Ivan and found them both to be proud of their product, committed to customer service, and eager to please the customer. That is what all boat manufacturers should be about. Corky
Is your boat an 09 Puma and How many seconds did it take to come on plane?
I really like the design of the E-Ladder. In my opinion, it greatly enhances safety and does not detract from the look of the boat.
I was just wondering where it was. I have heard a number of people discussing the new boat and wondering just what it would be like. I cant wait to hear more about it. This is all pretty exciting stuff!!!! Corky
