I have a 2009 Sabre and I too couldnt find a real good spot to mount my HDS 8. Ended up mounting it just starboard of the handrail next to cockpit. Im a big fellow and that cockpit is rather tight so not a lot of room. I like it where it is and doesnt take up driving room.

Just ordered a 31 series online, cost 216.- instead of 279.- and picked it up at my local sears automotive shop that same day. For the discounts you have to order it online though. I called first and the auto center wouldnt honor the online price. Good deal right now. Problem is that big 31 wont fit in the small plastic battery tray in my Sabre so time for an aluminum upgrade.

Use a bit more amperage every now and then to fully charge? Is that what you mean? If so, whats the best way to give it more amperage now and then?

John, sometimes there is a separate fuse for some of your trailer light functions. I know there is on my Ford super duty. Heres what I would do for troubleshooting. Unhook your trailer plug at your pull vehicle. Take a multimeter and make sure you are getting voltage to one pin for those functions you want to check. Brakes, running/tail lights, turn signal. I think your brakes and turn signal will be the same pin for right side and another pin for left side. In this way, you can isolate the problem to your tow vehicle or your trailer. Since no brakes or turn signals, I suspect fuse in your tow vehicles fuse box.

Yeah, I know the 3M 5200 is bad stuff. Put my fender back on with it after the urethane windshield stuff broke loose. If you had to take it off, chances are you would get it off in pieces. Its such an aggressive adhesive its probably not the best thing to use if it needs to come back apart at some point.

After reading dropshots post, I remembered there being some relays on some trucks without the tow packages you had to add relays and harnesses to get them to work. Heres a link to Curts relay kit for the Titan since you have their harness. http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Curt/C57000.html Also there are some differences in relays depending on the year model of your truck. Be sure you get the right ones.Last edited by apdriver on March 4th, 2013, 2:44 am, edited 1 time in total.

Im certainly no expert on this, but it is standard practice to put inline fuses as close to the battery as you can. That way, if you get a short, your circuit will be protected from where your fuse is located all the way down range. All that being said, I believe I read a post awhile back where BCB said they quit using inline fuses because they tend to cause a lot of problems. Bad connections, corrosion mostly so the units stop working. Im sure they will chime in soon. Good luck.

Yeah, I just installed a Hds5 at my bow and HDS 8 at the console. I know what a pain it can be to run the wires and transducer cables. Also spent a lot of time crawling around helicopters in the service repairing wiring and running cables. Why dont you do this to troubleshoot it and then you will know if its a fuse/wiring problem or a bad control head on that unit. Why dont you unplug the control head from the mount and use a multimeter to see if you are getting 12vdc to the mount. If it is a Hummingbird, the power wire will be the connector with two wires by itself. Lowrance will be the same, just a screw on connector.Last edited by apdriver on March 4th, 2013, 4:42 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Good deal. The new Hds units w/sidescan are pretty sweet. A buddy of mine says it is like taking the water out of the lake. I dont know if they are that good. They are nice though. If you need more help let us know. One of the nicest, inexpensive electronic multimeters Ive seen, and I have one, is the Craftsman. Little red unit that costs 25 bucks or so. Self protecting in that if you hook it up backwards it just shows negative numbers instead of damaging the unit. Just thought I would add that since you have to buy one.
