There are plenty here who know Conroe fairly well. You should have up to date information soon. BCB
Yep, buy a map and stay away from the 1st jungle. Its complicated to run if you do not know the route. 1 mile north of the FM 1097 bridge is a blind hazard. Lots of stumps under the water.James

Lots of stumps under the water.I agree with Jewalston about the buying a map part. South of the 1097 bridge is mostly clear of exposed trees and stumps but the only trade off there yoou will find a lot of recreational boat traffic which will make any areas on the main lake a little tough to fish. You can go into the coves and do good but you will again need to get a “Hot Spot” map from wal-mart or accademy or even the marinas at the lake sell them. If you go down Hwy 105 there will be 2 areas to launch one will be at lakeside maina which is next to Pappas on the lake and the other is further down usrd to ne April Plaza Marina (name now changed) new owner. If you go further north up IH 45 and exit FM 1097 go west (left) across the main lake you will come to a public launch provided by the Parks Dept and you will have to pay $5.00 courtsy fee and you will be able to launch into Caney Creek lots of areas to fish (lots of trees / stumps) further north on IH45 you can exit FM 830 and go west (left) there is Anchorage marina or a public launch at the dead end of FM 830. Further north off Calvary Rd is Stowaway Marina (lots of good areas to fish). If you choose down south Adkins creek has many good areas to fish (mainly on the main creek bank areas) The coves off of Adkins creek hold fish but the fish will be harder to find. Rush Creek which if you launch from Lake side (next to pappas) has lots of good areas to fish (pond dams, road beds, humps). Good thing to fish with this time of year is crank baits and carolina rig worm fishing. Good Luck!
Top water early or a Rattle Trap style bait will net you some good fish. Once the sun is up the fish will head to deep water drop offs or humps. Carolina rig in a watermelon seed is the bait of choice during the day. Deep cranking also yields solid bites; especially if you turn on a school. They call the fish “u-haul” bass because with the lack of hydrilla/weeds the fish are constantly running the creek channels and popping up on the next hump. I got my Bass Cat coming next weekend and you will find me on the Lake every spare second! Shoot me a line if youd like to pair up sometime.http://www.vrbo.com/297770
http://www.conroebass.com/Boating_Hazard_Map.htmlI fished this lake while in college in the 80s, pretty decent then. Lots more people using all of our lakes now.Steve

This is some good info but “allot of recreational boat traffic” is an understatement especially on the weekends. This place is a meca for jetskies and go fast large boats that belong off shore. You may have to watch for stumps but I would try to stay North of 1097 this time of year. Caney creek is a good arm with a good creek channel and plenty of cover. Peach and no name cove are close to caney just watch for sumps.
thanks guys and great map. Randy, Ill holler at you when I get a free weekend.
Old thread I know but any new update or suggestions for someone new to lake Conroe? I hit what i assume was my first stump early this morning across from the Cagle boat ramp. I was headed south east from the 1375 bridge towards the boat ramp. I thought I was in a clear area but evidently not. I cant find any damage so guess I got lucky. My plan was to cross underneath the bridge and heads towards the Cagle ramp then southwest cross to the west side of the lake where the boat lanes were. I was running in 13-16 feet of water when I heard the thump.
Even though that thread is 6 years old, its still pretty accurate, except for the pleasure bost traffic keeps getting heavier. Water depth up north means little, you have to know where the boat lanes are. I spend most of my time south, from Caney & Stowaway, although the north end does keep you out of the pleasure boaters way. Main lake point on the south side of Caney & rip rap along the 1097 bridge are some of the obvious places. Hot Spot map will show where the road beds, pond dams, and ridges are, you just have to locate them. Send me an email and see if we can get together.
