Trolling Motor Tripping Breaker

I bought a p2 with motorguide trolling motor at first I never noticed this a problem but one evening it tripped the breaker located in the bildge when running on 100 percent. I recently traded trolling motors for a minn kota fortrex 80lb 24v motor and it blows the breaker on 100 percent also. Could the breaker be weak? It runs fine on any other percent except if I run it on 90 for a long stretch it will do it also. Breaker is rated for 50 amps.

Im running the same trolling motor and had problems with older worn out breakers tripping. How old are your breakers? Ive run a 36 volt trolling motor since 2000 and have always used the same breakers you have described. I suspect you have a worn out breaker. If I were to change it out I would change both out. Mike

The boat is a 2012, was thinking it was quick for a breaker to start going bad.

I had the same problem with a 36v MK after a few years of use. Replaced the breakers and fixed it. If I remember correctly, mine were also 24v 50A breakers

As the others have said replace the breakers, that should solve the problem. Is there any corrosion on the posts on the breakers? I had to replace them all the time on my Baycat. Only once on my 09 Cougar though. I keep several spares on my boat, just in case.

I would order some new breakers from BCB parts. Yes, your breaker is bad. Once a breaker trips and continues to trip it loses some capacity each time to the point where itll trip all the time. I bet by replacing them corrects your problem. It doesnt hurt to have spares either. 50A would be the correct breaker.

I would agree, the breaker is likely bad. However, Id also check the battery wires where they attach to the battery. Could be some corrosion up into the wires. I had that happen on the Baycat I had for a while. I also had breakers go bad on it as well. I carry spare breakers in the boat.

Connections in the plugs, connections at the batteries, as well as bad breaker will cause it to trip on high. On high, the current isnt pulsing, but feeding directly full time to the trolling motor. I agree that a 50 A breaker is light for the trolling motor. A 60A would be better. Carefully check all connections for corrosion and clean as necessary. A loose connection will generate heat and cause damage to the wiring. The circuit breaker is in the loop to protect the wiring, not the motor.
