FIRST HAS ANY ONE HAD A PROBLEM WITH SLINGING THE EARS OFF OF THE TROPHY PLUS . I HAVE 2 EARS GONE AND DONT THINK I HIT ANYTHING HAVE HADE 4 DIFFERENT PEOPLE TELL ME THEY HAVE HADE THE SAME PROBLEM.I HAVE TRIED A 26 AND A 27 TEMPEST ALONG WITH ANOTHER 26 TROPHY SHOULD THE ENGINE BE LOWER WITH A 3 BLADE HOLE SHOT BEST WITH 26 TEMPEST HALF TANK GAS LIVEWELL FULL 1 PERSON TURNS ALL 3 PROPS ABOUT 6000 RPMS SPEED 70 TO 71 WITH 3 BLADE 73 WITH 4 BLADE CENTER OF PROP SHAFT 3 IN. BELOW PAD 225 OPTI.WATER PRESSURE STILL GOOD 25 AT WOT.

Ive only slug two blades in the last 7 years. One on a Tempest and one on a Yamaha prop. Youre probably running the trim a tad high and stressing the prop a little. Stress is caused by excessive surfacing of the blades. If the prop has the smallest defect then it will probably end up cracking further and then slinging that blade. I will say that Ive never heard two slinging at the same time. Probably what happened was one came off and then impacted the other. 6000 rpms are a bit high on the Opti 225. I suspect your tach to be off some. Engine height is determined by top end speed and steering wheel torque, though at 3″ below pad youre in the neighborhood. In addition, at the stated rpms and the speed youre posting youre running around 15% on the 26 Trophies and high slip with the 27 Tempest which is fairly high slip %s. In your case I would to reduce the slip to gain more speed. This is done by lowering the engine or trimming down some. Other questions:Have you hit the rev limiter yet? Your engine should have a rev limiter at 5800 rpms or so which leads me to believe your tach is off some.Do you have bow lift or is the boat running flat? If its running flat, then the engine is too high on the jack plate.Steering torque? Best top end speed will be attained with just a touch of steering torque and just short of being trimmed full out.

jigfish1, if you are obviously ventilating that Tempest, you can plug a couple of PVS holes, or you can plug the hoies in those Trophy props also and play with vent rings on them. BCB

jigfish1,I just slung a blade last weeked. Didnt it anything and it broke from the trailing edge to the leading edge. When I talked to the dealer who sold it to me he said with a Trophy Plus you can count on 2 things: 1. Great Performance and 2. slinging a blade. I was lucky enough that mine is under warranty and Mercury is covering it. It was a 26P with a blowout ring and all 4 holes plugged. JIGFISH1I have a 2006 Puma/w 225 Merc Pro XS. I had a blade on my 26 Trophy Plus crack about halfway up on one of the ears, did not hit anything. Prop had less than 50 hours on it. I was lucky to catch it before it left me limping back to the ramp. I do not want to step on anyones toes here, but I am not convinced this is as much a trim issue as it is a problem with manufacturing at Mercury Props. I know I am the new guy on the block, but I am not he only one to experience this. We cant all be that screwed up on boat trim, can we? With that said Mercury did the right thing after some conversation and replaced it at no cost. I am still looking for a spare prop because I have a feeling this may not be the end of the cracked ears on the trophy plus prop. Good Luck.Jack

Have a 26 4 blade yamaha prop for 325. Ran this last weekend and could not tell the difference in the trophy well we lost almost a 1 mph.Gabe Lawson870 467 5299BCB Opinion: This is not a suggested propeller on a Mercury engine and BCB 225/250 packages.

Gabe,Thanks for the info but I would never consider using anything but a Mercury Prop on my Pro XS. I am still mulling over a 27 Trophy or a 26/27 tempest but just not sure what direction I want to go. Thanks BCB for you input as well, no worries I would only use the manufactors recommend prop on my rig. Jack
