The Original “Heavy Duty” Hambys Beaching Bumper must be dealer installed but the Light Duty version is a DIY project. Let me know if you have any more questions about the product.

someone told me it could be a DIY job but dealer said it was glased to hull and had to set up and cure for at least a day. maybe friend was refering to a stickon which i was told to stay away from that they would come off at WOT. thanks for help in deciding

I bought the “Keelshield” brand protector from Cabelas for my Sabre and my Dads R boat. It is one of the DIY “stick on” kind. We are not die hard tournament anglers but we do put time on our boats and we have not had any problem with them coming off so far. i was also told to put one of the on and save 300.00 that they did just fine he might even said that they were guarnteed to stay on. could they be applied with some 3m 5200 marine adheasive or something to assure it to stay on. i was quoted 400.00 for the hamby installed wich is 75.00 less than steven paid. i just dont want any stump or rock gouges in my pretty new Sabre

On a Sabre it becomes cost effective to go to the light duty Hamby. The regular Hamby is a more durable protector, though it is also more expensive. There is a ratio to cost that is a consideration. If you bounce the best graphs, Hamby, 100 pound trollers, tandem and more on a Sabre, then you put yourself out of the range of price efficiency. Then you might as well have gotten a P2, P4 or Cougar Advantage Elite (CAE).

what is the difference in light and heavy duty will they both do the same job?

Will they both get the job done? Yes they both will, but the main difference between the Original “Heavy Duty” Hambys and the Light Duty is the thickness of the two products. If you plan on beaching your boat a lot over the years then it will pay to go for the Original model as it is a thicker product. The Original Beaching Bumper is 5/8″ thick where the Light Duty is 5/16″ thick. I have the Original on our PII but either will work and they both carry a Life Time warranty. The Original is glassed to the hull and the light duty is held on by 3M adhesive.
