Lowrance/GPS module not responding?

I was wondering if anybody has had this problem with their Lowrance units.I have had my LCX-27C for abouot 14 months and have had intermittent problems with the GPS not responding.I always assumed that it was a loose connection because after I added some electrical “goop” into the connections it worked for a while.Well that “while” took the unit out of warranty and now I need to know if I should spend $250 on a new puck or send the unit in. If annybody has had this problem and solved it please let me know.

Mine did the same thing and it was the Puck (antenna)), Talked with Linda Colt at lowrance and she got me fixed at no cost for the antenna

Could you please let me know your results. My 520 is less than a year old and started doing that off and on as well. Been down this road before…the antenna must be mounted at least 4 feet from the unit or you will lose signal and get “GPS Module not responding”…that was on my 2006 model unit…mounting the antenna right next to the unit is asking for trouble…just ask the Lowrance tech guys. Also, there is a in line fuse that will blow if you get any water on the cables that connect to the unit…like when you remove your unit and rain/dew get on the cables. Also, I had the same problem when the ground wire developed a microscopic “nick” in the wire from when I laid a push pole under the console and it bounced around and “nicked” the ground wire. You can go to the Lowrance website and copy a step by step guide to trouble shooting “GPS Module not Responding” that requires an ohm meter….that will let you know if the antenna is bad or if its a wiring issue.

I just installed my new unit on the bow and put the puck to the left of the trolling motor (2 feet from the unit) as many have. I went out this weekend and it kept dropping the satallite signal. I also put down a waypoint and when I returned to it I was 150 feet off. I went home and did some research on the web. I did a master reset but that didnt fix the problem. I removed the puck and moved it 4 feet from my unit and my signal was fixed. I picked up twice as many satallites. When I move the puck closer to the unit I start dropping satallites. I am going to mount the puck at the rear of the boat next to the air intake vent opposite the one in the dash. Now I have to cover the hole in the front that I already drilled. Does anyone know if any of the boat stores make anything to go over a hole that looks decent ? Tony

I am on my third antenna and about to change brands. My unit was installed at the factory and the antenna is on the rear of the boat. While dealing with Linda is great – she is very good – the frustration with a $600 unit that only works some time can get to you. I have a 334c on the front of my boat and it always holds the signal. Try one of the teardrop foot pads from parts to cover that hole. The receivers from Lowrance we have no comment on. The newer HD Series does seem to be improved on the external receiver. The new internal one we have not heard any negative about either. I had the same problem with a 3 month old puck. Linda had me check that I was getting the proper voltage, I was. I sent her the puck and she sent me a new one. No more problems. Give her a call, she is great.
