Minn Kota problems

Anyone else had the little plastic ramps on the mount going over the metal trough, curl under on their fortrex, and cause the TM to hang up where you cant lift it until the little things break?Well I did on my 101, I guess I need to call them for warranty? I can use mine still but it is kinda rough pulling out of the water. I can take pictures to show you what I mean, but seems strange for such a thing to happen after they have been out for over a year. Im sure others have had the same problem. I only have 35 hours on my boat and they already broke!

It sounds like you have a connection problem in the foot control. if they have any spade connectors in the foot petal I would remove and clean those connections. When you rocked the foot petal it probably moved the connector enough to get a connection.

Thanks this is a maxxum 80 us1 boat is 2005 so Im assuming the TM is from 2005Is there wire connections in the foot pedal that I should check?

Under the button is a magnet (I think that it is like this on an 05) it can get pushed down you can take a small screwdriver and push it back up. Be careful not to cut the wires with the screwdriver. Ron

My trolling motor while being used stopped all of a sudden as described by “Kent7352”.. I was able to restart the operation of the trolling motor only by pulling it out of the water and re-craddling it, then placing it back into the water. It appears to opperate perfectly until I turn to the port side approx. 1 to 2 degrees, then it stops, requiring it to be re-craddled and placed back into the water. I cant duplicate the problem, but when it stops that seems to be the direction. This motor is very new less than a year old. It was on the boat that I bought it approx. 1 month ago. The trolling motor is a “Maxxum 80 as well, mounted on my 1990 Pantera II.Any one have any suggestions? Ive attempted an electronic dialog w/ Minn Kota without a responce.

Sounds like a bad armature. When it stops, it is landing on a dead com bar. rocking the foot pedal, or picking it up out of the water is turning the prop enough to set the brushes on a good bar.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

This being the possible cause, how difficult is it to either repair or replace?

I had same problem with intermittent loss of power. my problem was the solder contancts around the end where the brushes contact came loose.my dealer re-soldered them. happened twice then he soldered all the way around.

I had the same exact problem on about the same year and model. It is in the armature the repair center i took it to just ran a sanding wheel inside where the armature goes and never had problem again he said they had problems with that model and year .

I got out the crying towel and took it in. Ill let you guys know what it turns out to be.
