Gatorbak bunks, Love the concept!

When do you unhook the front strap and rehook the front strap. I am nervous to unhook the strap when backing down the ramp if they are very steep, and Probably more nervous about pulling out of the water without it hooked up especially since the hull is wet. With the Gatorback bunks the surface area contact is reduced due to being ribbed. Am I being to nervous.

Even with carpet I back down the ramp, unhook the strap and launch, tie up boat, come back to the truck and park. When I take the boat out, I hook the strap before I pull the boat out. Its an easy thing to do for some piece of mind.

I keep the boat hooked to the trailer if its close enough to hook it. no reason to take a chance.

They have suspended using Gatorback for now and went back to carpeted bunks..

Take it from someone who dropped a boat on a ramp; ITS WORTH THE EXTRA STEP. The ramp I was at wasnt steep, but it was pretty bumpy. I had backed that trailer down steeper ramps before without a problem. I had fished the day before, so Im guessing the bunks were still a little wet. Luckily mine didnt completely come off the trailer, just slid until the bottom of boat and outboard skeg hit the ground. I was able to get someone to backup slowly as I cranked the winch, and worked it right back down on the trailer. Didnt do any serious damage, but I will never take that chance again. These rigs are too big of an investment to chance it over something that takes a few extra seconds.

Completely agree. I back down the ramp to the edge of the lake where I can still walk behind and undo my transom tie downs, then back about half way into the lake, get out and unhook the winch. The extra 20 seconds to do it is worth it if it saves a disaster. When I reload, I do the same. Pull out of the water enough with the winch attached and then put the transom tie downs back on. Its worth the extra time it takes for peace of mind knowing its not sliding off going back up the ramp.

I always undo the back tie downs but leave the bow hooked. Back it down ready to launch, then I unhook the bow as I climb into the boat. If mine slides off it will land in the water.
