Ceramic Coating?

I would like to know what Bass Cat thinks of ceramic coating?  Also, what product would you suggest if you think it’s good for fiberglass boats.  I have an 05 Classic that is in really good shape and I unusually wax it once or twice a year.  The UV protection advertised by these products sounds great.

Ceramic is fine, we just don’t see a huge benefit on most fiberglass. There are areas it does well on in certain finishes.

I had mine done recently and wouldn’t do it again. Looks no different than a high quality boat specific wax. My old boat looked new when i sold it at 12yrs old. I don’t think the ceramic is going to be worth it in the long run, its about the same work to wipe it down after trailering and everything.

I had my 2018 EYRA professionally Ceramic Coated very soon after I bought it in the summer of 2018.   The detailers did a great job and I have no complaints with their work.  They also did my 2018 GMC Sierra at the same time.  The Ceramic on my truck is still holding up reasonably well but I will say that after 4 years of normal use the Ceramic coating on the EYRA has long since worn off.  I think it is just the nature of Gel Coat/Fiberglass being so much more porous than painted metal that it doesn’t last nearly as long.   To this day I have not found a better, longer lasting product than good ole Orange Bottle NU-FINISH.  It works great, has good longevity and if you use a quality detailer in between waxing will keep your rig looking new for years to come.  I would not spend the money on ceramic if I bought a new boat again.  Good wax job 3-4 times per year with a good detailer in between and you’ll be a happy boater.

I agree with Sharp! My Sabre FTD was ceramic coated and have found that NU Finish 3 times per year will give the same shine and protection. I will not do it again. Haven’t ceramic coated my truck, so can’t speak to that!

I had a 2015 ZX Skeeter before the Cougar I have now, and I had it coated. I found it to last about 2 years on what should have been a 10 year coating. A good quality soap and some old fashion elbow grease I think does more good than the 1000 dollar coating.

I would be interested in trying the ceramic coating on the motor. That seems to be the hardest to keep clean for me and it’s not as porous as fiberglass??

I never went with the 100% ceramic but have used the Mothers CMX ceramic. EASY application and a 2 to 3 month wear time at pennies compared to professional ceramic application. Wipe on/wipe off and makes cleaning the boat a lot easier later.

Chemical Guys products are very good, particularly if you are interested in some kind of do it yourself ceramic coating.  Their Hydropseed Ceramic Hyperwax and Hydrospeed Ceramic Quick Detailer are excellent.
