2025 Pantera Classic RPMs Speed

I have a new Pantera Classic ‘25 w/ a 150hp mercury (not a proxs).  I’m just looking if anyone else has this setup.  My main issue is the boat is not going over 40mph after the break in period and reach around 5000 rpms. I have a fury 3 blade prop.  Just getting the boat out soon to try to dial it in since the ice just thawed.  Below are additional setup descriptions.  What rpm’s and speed should I be seeing if it’s setup correctly

MinKota Ultrex
-Helix 7 and helix 10 at console
-Garmin 12” and helix 7 in front
-Precision sonar dual mounts in both place maybe 20lbs
-Two Lithium 50aH for trolling motor and the AGM cranking battery the boat came with
-50aH lithium battery in front storage compartment with black box for garmin unit

Live wells full w/ 3/4 gas tank full

Maybe 20lbs of additional tackle and gear

Nothing else

What pitch prop is the Fury?

Went through this with a friend same set up.  The lack of weight in the back with the Lithium batteries is the issue.  Boat built with three lead or AGM batteries in mind.  I had him sit in the very back on  the floor holding onto the rear seat post (200 plus pounds) and we got out of the hole and up to 53 to 55mph.  It’s never going to be a rocket ship with a 150 but it will run a lot better with more weight all the way back in bilge area.  Good luck.

I’ve got a DC Sabre FTD with standard 150 4-stroke, not sure what pitch prop you have though would think yours should have a 23” as it won’t be as fast. That would put you around 60mph on the limiter, but maybe it’s a 22” as thats the smallest Fury they make. Mine came with a 24” and I switched to a 25” that I have turned 66.6mph in good conditions for reference. Though my boat is lighter, has single graph up front, low profile TM and regular batteries. You atleast have rear mounted fuel tank to help with weight distribution as mine is underseat, but will admit the Fury doesn’t have as much lift as the Tempest or Trophy I’ve also run. So I’d recommend trying one of those, to see if it helps get the boat on the final pad instead of plowing.

Jake, What are your RPM at top end speeds and what size Fury do you have?

How much trim are you using and what elevation is your engine at.

RPMs are right at 5k, and the boat didn’t come with a trim gauge which I found that odd once I put it on the water.  One odd thing that happens at say 2500-3500 rpms during the break in period is the left side somewhat drags in the water without a passenger

If you have a hot foot, it is possible that it is not adjusted properly to allow WOT. I have the same boat, but with a 200 Pro Xs. I can hit 5800 rpm’s, and around 69 mph. with a 4 blade prop.  Although you have a 150, there should not be 25 mph difference between your rig and mine. I hardly ever use the trim gauge, but go by feel. Cats do not like much trim.

Jack plate looks flush, so I’m guessing the engine is around 3.5” prop to pad. With that prop and 7.5% slip, you can theoretically do ~61mph on the limiter. I’d try a 23” Tempest to see if that helps the bow lift more as you have quite a bit of weight up front. You’re not traveling fast enough to pack air under the hull, but am curious what your what psi is more than trim angle? As this engine doesn’t have low water pickups and runs out of water psi before hitting max trim angle from my experience.

Yea boat doesn’t have a PSI gauge on it either… no hot foot either so that’s not the issue.

I feel like something is wrong 40 mph just doesn’t seem right.  Weight distribution issues or jackplate issues I wouldn’t think would cause that slow of a speed.

I’d say I have to have it trimmed up 75% also to even get 40mph out of it.

Is your rooster tail above the top of the engine cowl at 75% trim? I still say swap to a prop that has a larger diameter/more surface area to create more lift as I will almost guarantee that will help. I’ve run the Fury, Tempest and Trophy on my lighter Sabre with the same engine and the Fury is the most sensitive to weight.

The rooster tails at least 10’ in the air. It really throws it crazy high

Sounds like you are over trimming. Here’s a little explanation on trimming a BassCat copied doing a search on the forum. Explains the trimming process very well.

With a BCB, Throttle is power, and trim is speed. Come out the hole, keep power WOT, slowly bump up your trim once the boat has leveled off and picking up speed. When you have the right amount of trim, you will feel the boat lift and get on pad. If you overtrim, you will actually lose speed. Also watch your water pressure. Seat time will help.

one thing I’ll add is trim in small bumps. With WOT when your boat stops accelerating add a bump of trim and wait until your speed stagnates then add another bump of trim.

I would agree if he was running WOT on final pad, but he can’t even get to the powerband (5000-5800) as he’s only doing 40mph and plowing. The 150 4-stroke does have a faster than normal trim with the single cylinder ram that is always in “tilt” speed, but trim is lift and he can’t fly the bow because of all the weight up front and the relatively small/low lift prop I believe.
