I am not sure how your Verado or opti max is set up, But the Manual adjustment screw that you loosen to lift your motor by hand when your trim unit fails(or your 20 amp fuse blows ) is made out of plastic, well it is imperative that you have a screwdriver that will fit that slot exactly, the larger the better. That day at the ramp we had one that was about 1/8″ short on both sides and it tore the head of the screw all to pieces. So today I got to spend about 2 hours with a drill, drill bits, a tap to rethread the damn thing and a whole lot of sweat, not to mention that damn little plastic screw cost 44 dollars! Thsi design is just plain dumb, they can make the same design out of an aluminum or S/S screw and this would not be a problem. Also listen when the manual says to only turn three times to relive the pressure of the unit. So if your Verado/Opti has the same little adjustment screw I would advise you to pack a screwdriver that fits that slot exactly. This was on 06 200 OptiJay Law
Been there done that I thought that plastic screw was an awful design also This happened to me prefishing for a tournament, spent most of the day finding parts stores in a unfimilar town hard to find a screwdriver this exact size.Tim Rawls
JayLaw, We understand your frustration, though we have used that same screw for a number of years. We used to manually lift all of the engines we rigged here at BCB. We did not use the pump or put power on the engines here. So we have loosened those screws literally hundreds of times. We have never had to replace one. And still we do understand. It takes a large screwdriver, and probably the fact that you have not done this proceddure on very many engines added to the error. We have seen thousands, and have seldom seen one damaged too badly. We do wish they would use a little tab, actually reverse like a screwdriver bit, or even a HEX head. Then you could grab that with a wrench or pliers. You would scuff the end, though it would not strip like the screw head. BCB
