Ive had both and sold Detwiler in the past. Its like this…………Detwiler is probably a more reliable jack plate and probably a stronger jack plate. Though the problem with a Detwiler is it will lose its black color (anodize) if not cared for. If there are repairs to any part of the jack plate, the engine will more than likely have to be removed. Though I will say that of the last 5 or 6 Detwilers I owned I had zero problems. This is post redesign. Prior to the redesign, I only had one that developed a seal leak and these were a pain in the rear. Seal leaks were more prevalent in models that were built just prior to the redesign (2006?). The boat I have now has an Atlas. I lilke the jack plate because it has a decent gauge, power pole brackets (those BCB have) are a very nice fit, power poles are always at the lowest point, the finish on the plate will tarnish, but can be brought back to shine fairly easy. To end, Ive already replaced a pump on the Atlas, but that could have been 1 in a thousand.Speed up and down the winner is? Your choice, your money. Youre not going to make a mistake either way.
