The following is meant to be helpful to hopefully improve upon. When I got my cover from Aurora for my Caracal the fit was horrible. The Pantera Classic cover I received for my previous boat to the Caracal was also too big in all of the same areas, was sent back 3 times, and then was just never used. If I was to have used the cover that was sent as a travel cover for either boats it would have damaged the gel coat on the consoles and other areas because there was just too much material. So I contacted Aurora , and spoke with Dell. Dell wanted to help to get the cover to fit but told me that the main issue is that when the cover is ordered by BC that they are not being told of the windshield type for the boat. He said there are 3 different sized windshields that are being used, and unless he knows what size they cannot make the cover to fit the boat properly.
Sent my cover back into Aurora, and they slightly improved the fit in the console areas but based upon pictures and how I marked it up. I sent in pictures of the problem and used a fabric marking chalk to mark things up per his request. Even though this was done I will still have to put something additional in the console areas to protect them from the finish being damaged by the cover rubbing as there is still a little too much material that could not be removed by the alterations made. Then there is so much excess from the consoles to the transom that a 5 gallon bucket put on the back deck does not take all of the excess material away. This excess material is so much that it would flap and rub on he console seats while trailering and cause wear issues to the top of the seats and to the top of the gel on the back decks. My cover is installed as tight as I can possibly get it so this is not “operator error”. I sent pics to Aurora showing how tight the cover was, where at sat on the boat, how it was installed, and they agreed it was properly installed.
Ranger guys have always bragged that a cover for a Ranger fit like a glove, never any rubbing, always tight, and that was because they were made for the boat at the factory to ensure this. I know it would be crazy to think in these times that BC to start making their own covers but something needs to be changed/improved upon to make things better. I know there are going to be responses of how your cover fits like it is supposed to but mine and others that I have talked to who have got an Aurora cover lately that was ordered through BC are having to add all kinds of things to their boat to prevent the cover from causing finish damage due to the cover not fitting the boat properly. On both of the covers I received it looked like they were made for the OLD BC boats that had the huge windshields that were square and went the full width of the consoles…like from boats from the 80’s/90’s.
For as a great of a boat as a BC boat is everything else should be as well. No one wants their boat finish to get scuffed up/damaged because the cover is not fitting the way it should. The cover should not be an afterthought as if it is then just tell owners to get a custom made cover locally. I talked to 2 boat cover makers in my area and they will not touch/modify the cover I have so now I will have to add things to prevent damage to the finish for my boat to use the cover as a travel cover.
If this is an issue that has just started to happen in the past couple years then this is just to make BC aware. If these are not travel covers then let owners know. If they are meant to be travel covers then something needs to be done to improve upon the fit so having to add 5 gallon buckets and moving blankets as a prevention for finish damage is not is not needed. Can they be 100% perfect? That would be great…but based upon my past 2 covers something is being missed.
That information is inaccurate and we do inform Aurora of the type windscreens, which on a Caracal there are only two.
Covers are not an afterthought and your dealership is who should be assisting with this situation. You should not have to have to be going direct to Aurora as we want to be sure you are taken care of.
They will be glad to help you and your dealership through our Service Dept.
