My boat has some water line staining that Im having difficulty scrubbing off. The bottom of my 16 year old Sabre is also white and is stained as well. I talked to a friend that details cars and boats as well as restoration about having his shop clean it up. He said before bringing it in I should try an “Ancient Chinese Secret” (Calgon reference for the younger audience). He said the first thing they do is put “The Works: Toilet Bowl Cleaner” in a spray bottle and spray the boat down and rinse with a hose in the other hand. He says that is standard practice in their shop, but it is very important to hose it off as soon as the stain starts fading which should be only about 10 seconds. He claims it is perfectly safe for gel coats. He did say to wax afterwards or bring it in and they would detail the boat but I just saved myself about $100 bucks on the cleaning aspect.1. The Works is hydrochloric acid based on the msds sheet I pulled. So is it safe to use?? 2. Ive seen the youtube videos where people use Oxalic acid and the results are amazing. Is Oxalic acid safe?3. Is any acid safe to use? My back will not allow me to scrub and buff for hours and his shop is the go to place for boat detailing so if they do it they will use “The Works” on my boat anyway. This will probably be a spring job if I try to do it all. If I spray it down and they detail it could be done during the winter.Merry Christmas To all!

I have been using The Works for 5 or 6 years with no problems. You can get it at Walmart for around $2.50. Once you spray it on the grime will wife off very easily. Some people say to dilute it…I never have. Its great stuff. Good luck!
Plain white vinegar is a really good option to getting off stains!!! Including g on carpet!!

Order the Pro Tec Care Kit from the Bass Cat web store. In the kit is a hard water descaler-Pur Kleen- it works wonders on water stains and scum lines. Be sure to apply sealant Polish afterwards to prevent the stains and scum lines from coming back. Feel free to call me if you have anymore questions. Joe Pro-Tec Productswww.protecproducts.com
I agree Protect without a doubt, clean with Pur Kleen to get water spots of hull. Wash again with soap and water apply Sealant polish, then wipe down with showroom shine after use for a great looking boat that makes colors pop.
No offense, but I have Protec kit. It is great stuff, but it did not touch these stains. Cannot speak highly enough on the vinyl conditioner and the sealant. The sealant will go on after it the boat gets clean.I did wet sand a small area when I did the top cap back in the summer. My back just will not allow me to stay under the boat to wet sand the whole hull. I was looking to get the whole hull wet sanded thinking that was my only option. The friend of mine that recommended “The Works” said that they always tried it before wet sanding and it worked 80%+ and usually eliminated the need for the wet sanding. He is cleaning Bajas and boats that sit in slips on the Ohio river for years. Thanks for all the responses, I was wondering if the acids would cause ill effects
There is a product named Nu-Hull which will take off water line stain, oxydation, oil, practically everything off a fiberglass hull without damaging it. Spray it on, wait 3 minutes, water spray it off. It is great for removing yellowing from a white hull. Buy it on-line straight from the company. You will need to re-wax the hull after use.
