I apologize if this has been covered before in this forum but I was wondering the best way to clean the carpets in my 2005 BassCat Puma. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.Thanks.
Basscat recommends soaking carpet with hose, scrub with brush using a water/ white vinegar mix, thoroughly rinse with hose, then vacuum up the remaking water.
I know that this is not advised to do but man did my carpet come out nice.Laid down suds from a steam cleaner and work the carpet cleaner in with the scrub brushes.Put the power washer on to fan mode (lower the direct pressure)and sprayed the carpet from front to back. This brought all the dirt up and out.I used a strong shop vacuum to get all the moisture out. I also use the old power head from the house vacuum to fluff the carpet as I vacuum. For periodic cleaning the steam cleaner works for me.Just remember that you have to avoid damaging the glue that holds the carpet to the fiberglass floor.Good Luck.DwaynePractice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO
I have always put simple green liberally over the carpet, more so in the high soil areas, let set for 10-15 minutes, and then pressure washed with a wide distribution nozzle. After the soap is out, and the carpet soaked I vacuum with a shop vac in the opposite grain of the carpet. Fluffs it up, and works great!
The last few days all I had to do was vac the carpet as I dont think the waterhose could flush it like the rain we have been getting!
I have always pressure washed the carpet in my boats for years and never had a problem. Just use common sense and dont get the nozzle right next to the carpet and it will be fine. I get some all purpose cleaner like simple green or purple power and mix it 50/50 with water and spray it all over the carpet then i will run the pressure washer over the carpet just enough to get it wet and use a deck brush and scrub away. once i have scrubbed the carpet down then i pressure wash the entire carpet. I always park the boat on some sort of hill so all the water will drain out the back and go to town then once i get done spraying i get a shop vac and go over the entire boat slow to get as much water as possible i also open all the compartment doors and vac all the way around the underside of the lids and in the compartments. Then just let it sit in the sun for a day or so with all the doors open and your carpet will look like new. This process takes a long time but i think it looks the best and is the best way to get all the dirt and grime out of the carpet. Alot of guys say not to pressure wash it because it will tear up the glue but i have done it with several boats for years and never had a problem.
We are not proponents of pressure washing the carpeting. Flooding it and a wet vac seem to be best.
I have to say….the carpet in my boat was the worst thing about it when I got it. The boat was kept in great shape but the high traffic areas were very noticeable. I also have been using the pressure washer and each time I have done it, it looks a little better. Before the OI, I decided to give her a good cleaning so that she would look good next to all those pretty new boats. I tried flooding the carpet and using the shop vac multiple times. Yes, it was a lot of work, but I really think I made more progress just by doing that than I have in all the times of using the power washer. My plan from here on out is to just flood it and shop vac it 3-4 times and let the rest dry in the sun.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console

Method #1: Hoover SteamVac with carpet cleaning solution. I cleaned the whole boat with it. Works well for getting out any really dirty spots. Then flooded the carpet using a hose and removed most the water with a ShopVac. Raised the nap with a pet hair brush. Looks like new.Method #2: Get caught in a torrential downpour for 30 minutes going down the highway at 65 MPH on the way home from a morning fishing trip. Pull up in the driveway just as it stops raining and the sun comes out. Then flood the carpet and remove most the water with a ShopVac. Raise the nap with a pet hair brush and let dry in the sun for a few hours. While boat carpet dries, attempt to explain to wife why its necessary to clean carpet, and wash and polish a boat that just spent 30 minutes in torrential downpour. Watch as she walks away shaking head and mumbling something about crazy people.
