Ive got some scuff marks on my top cap, caused by towing with my Deans cover on the boat. Had it as tight as I could get it, but it still scuffed the cap. What can I do to safely get those out and restore the cap to its original condition?
Polish will normally take them out…if polish doesnt work a light rubbing compound will.Nature of the beast billius.Judd Lasiter
Judd…any suggestions as to a brand of polish to get?
GET YOU SOME 3M PERFECT IT II OR PERFECT- IT 3000 AND THEY SHOULD COME OUT EASILY. IF THEY ARE DEEP IT MAY REQUIRE A BUFFER OR MAYBE A LITTLE WET SANDING WITH 1500 AND BUFFING. NEED MORE INFO EMAIL ME AT DOUGNTINAMCGEE@HOTMAIL.COM BE GLAD TO WALK YOU THRU IT.
Any good polish will work for those as they arent deep it is just surface stuff. I use a polish called finish first but any good polish will work from Meguires, Mothers or ProTec.JuddEdit – whoops, the 3M stuff Doug mentioned will work well also. The thing I like about finish first is you can get it on the rub rail, MK mount or pedal, etc and it doesnt leave white stuff on it. But it isnt cheap and it goes on and off easier than anything else I have used. Finish First website
Thanks guys…Ill try one of those polishes. I never have towed a boat much at all with a cover on. I had it on overnight at a motel, was leaving the next morning and it was pouring rain. Was too lazy to take it off, so I towed the boat from middle Tn back to Indiana. I will never tow with the cover on again!
The Deans can scratch it there is any buffeting at all. They have to be exceptionally tight. The Aurora weigh more and is a bit more trouble, though has less scratching. Use some Finesse It or MGM 3 compound to remove those fine abrasions. BCB
here is a little trick that works quite will. Purchase a roll of shrink wrap at Home Depot (stuff they wrap around several boxes to hold them for shippment); go around the boat a couple of times; and you are good to go. Did this with my boat, took about 5 minutes and no damage at all from the flapping cover.jwt
Thanks for the advice guys. I got some Meguires Polish and it worked perfectly!!! Now…should I seal it with a good wax or would BassBoatSaver be enough to protect it?
billius – you just polished it no need for a wax…these new polishes are pretty good. Glad it fixed you up, I knew it would.Judd
