I have my 07 PII in for some minor scratch repairs on the boot and the place that is doing the work for me are some friends of mine that have a body shop and do boat repairs also. They wanted me to leave the boat hanging off the trailer as much as possible so they could get to one of the spots they were going to work better so I did. I dropped it off at lunch today and they looked under the boat to see how much easier it was going to be and immediately said “you have blisters in your gel”, and I laid down to see what they were looking at and it is blistered where it sits on the bunks of the trailer. What might cause this to happen? I fish year round and fish in temps from the teens in the winter to high 90s in the summer. I average at least one trip to the lake a week year round also. I did not know if it might be something to do with me loading it and hauling it in some extreme temperature with the bunks wet or something else maybe. The boat is kept in a garage in my basement everyday also. Forgot to mention they are not going to repair the blisters because they have no way of lifting the boat off the trailer. All of the repair work they do on boats is on the cap or sides of the boat 98% of the time. I talked them into working on the bottom of mine. Thanks for any info, TravisLast edited by TnSabre on February 9th, 2009, 5:49 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Probably need to shoot some pictures and send them to BassCat. Also include a description. Good luck and sorry to hear about that. Include your hull ID number.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
It is a common occurrance and becoming more so with the newer EPA improvised gels. We have seen more of it since the changes required us to leave the Vinyl Ester resins. It is osmosis from moisture absorption and is more common on higher mineral content reservoirs. Similar to those blistering from being left in the water. Get in touch with Service and let them give you an opinion. BCB
Thanks for the helpful info. I talked to Scott and he explained everything very well to me. He wanted me to send him some pictures of it and I forgot to ask him where to send the pics to before I hung up the phone. I am going to try to stop in there today or tomorrow and snap a few.Last edited by TnSabre on February 9th, 2009, 7:14 pm, edited 1 time in total.
[email protected] will get them to Scott. Judd Lasiter
I guess this will be a case by case issue, but are gel coat issues covered?
Can you get VE resin to do minor repairs on an older Cat built with VE? Ive got an 01 P-III, and have often wondered about this…….. Tis a shame the EPA cant leave well-enough alone.

Buch Id just email Scott Estes and ask him regarding specifics-C.O.D. Jr. III
Ive got them too…..discovered them when I was swimming last summer and happened to run my hand under the boat….they are exactly where the boat sits on the bunks……I dont have a problem with it unless it can create a bigger problem that I need to worry about. BCB, is it ok to let it be? Thanks, BAM
