How about this idea for keeping livewells full when running in rough water?

Found this 1″ threaded shutoff valve at Home Depot. Seems like its going to work good and it does not reduce the size of the original hole.

Nice piece of work, though the level is satisfactory to retain water in the wells when running. Which is why the fitting extends into the wells. You can use that valve in rough water like K Lake, Oneida, St. Clair and such on rough water days. If you restrict it the overflow will not keep up with the aerator. We use a thermos cork.

Well I ran the boat for a bit the other night and filled the wells. We had 1-2 footers and when I checked my wells i had 7 inches of water in them. I run through some stuff thats a lot worse than that. Since this fiitting does not decrease the size of the outflow hole I dont think I would have a problem with keeping up with the aerator.

You probably didnt have to valve all the way shut.

Yes, there is a slight detent the last 1/4″ and you must go past that to the stop.

what do you mean by detent? When I put it on auto I turn it as far right as it will go?

Yes. Make sure it is all the way as far as it will go — it has happened to many of us. Thankfully you didnt lose any fish.

When I put it on auto I turn it as far right as it will go?On the two Cougars Ive had, that detent, refers to a kind of notch the lever seems to go into as it gets turned as far as it goes into the auto position. Thats true except for my current Cougar. Mine works backwards for some reason…auto is really empty and empty is auto. Go figure. See if yours works in the center billius? We think you may have a three position valve by accident. There is info in the FAQ section about this.
