I am getting new bass boat-it is and am beginning to feel the need to scratch. I have been looking more and are getting closer to ordering a new one. I waited specifically for feedback on the Lynx. Im gonna water demo a Lynx and Puma in a couple weeks as they are my 2 top choices. So for all of you that have had the privilege of running multiple hulls, I am asking merely as an accurate comparison of Top End speed between the 4 with all other things being equal. I will likely go with a 250XXS. I have estimated the average top speeds based upon different posts and I feel the following would be pretty close to the capabilities of the 4 hulls with all else being equal (same driver, same options such as poles/batteries/TM/fuel, same temp/conditions, propped per hull for performance, etc.) Assuming I set the top expectation with the Eyra setting the bar at a average of 80 MPH. I know the Eyras are capable of more… just setting the benchmark there.Eyra = 80Cougar = 78 (Eyra -2 MPH)Puma = 77 (Eyra – 3 MPH)Lynx = 75 (Eyra – 5 MPH, Puma -2 MPH)Am I pretty close to the average speed differences between the 4 hulls? Can all of you experienced/seasoned Bass Cat owners who have actually ran a Lynx give me a good judge of top end speed based upon an equivalent Puma? Please be honest, if the Lynx is 5 MPH slower than and equal Puma and 10 slower than a Eyra, please let me know. Im not looking to receive “my XX will do XX on GPS” unless you have the ability to compare yours to a Lynx fairly equally. I know a lot of you have dialed in your boat as I have but I really need real-world side-by-side equal comparison to make an informed decision. My water test runs in a couple weeks will likely have different motors so a side by side is not equal. I am almost ready to pull the trigger on a Lynx, the top speed will likely be the deciding factor. I am in a PII right now and have her dialed in. I run 70-72 full tourney load (livewells full, almost 600 pounds of men, over half tank fuel) and have seen 76 early in her days on a wind at back-cool-going down river with current light solo run so I look forward to improving on this with my new ride. Thanks for your assistance.
With todays engines the Eyra is very close to 80, though slightly under for an honest estimate. Some will and some wont hit that. The Cougar FTD and Puma FTD are very close. The Lynx might be a fidget high, of course we dont know how the new V8 carries it, and the Yamaha will run in that range of right at mid 70s. The Lynx will be a no back up on expectations rig. You will not regret that decision we feel. The others might be compromise, unless your after the Eyra handling and performance, then your meeting your expectations. Floor plans are the other side of any decision, which is why the Puma FTD has a solid following. They like the segregated storages and the full depth easy to use Net Scabbard. Of course the Lynx net scabbard is also a nice feature, while not quite as easy to use due to the larger lid and access point, it is a doable user part in their daily fishing. You can reach and grab it easily.
Hi, I have had an Eyra , Puma, and Cougars, I have found all three are about the same top in with the Puma and Cougar slightly faster. but not a 1mph difference. Top in on my current ride a Cougar with a 250 XS is most days between 79 and 80 mph and loaded tournament days with livewells full about 78 or 79 mph. The Eyra has about the same top in but is quicker and handles a bit sharper. I have not run the Lynx. The Layout of the Cougar works best for me. Good Luck and have fun choosing!! Joe Riley
