Ok guys looking for some advice. I have two serious buyers on my 09 Puma so trying to make some decisions before I order my next one. I currently have the 250 Pro XS on my Puma but what can you guys tell me about the two motors and their differences? Does anyone have any first hand expierence with the Verado? There does not seem to be a whole lot of diference on price between the two motors. Has been my expierence these cats are fast enough that the extra weight of the Verado does not concern me much.
I went with the proxs for three reasons.1. The bass boat market has not embraced the Verado, so I thought it may be a little harder to sell.2. The motor was not much of a price difference, however the rigging of the hot foot and controls are much more expensive.3. The rumored gas milage in the upper end of the rpm range is not good.
At this point in the game I think I would be looking at the ProXs or the SHO if a 4 stroke is desired. Like previously mentioned the boat will be easier to sell with either one of these motors.
ProXS or a SHO for me too!
My philosophy is to stay with the older technology for almost as long as its available or until the new product has proven itself over years. Yes the Verado has been on the market a while and it has proven itself, but is not widely accepted in the bass boat market due to the size and weight. Let them reduce the size and weight and it will be a whole new ball game. In addition, theres not a faster, more reliable, more fuel efficient engine than the Opti Pro XS. Therefore, get the Opti!
Thanks for the input guys. I guess if its not broke dont fix it! Now time to figure out a good color scheme.
First we love the Verado engines. Though they are not as good a resale, and they cost considerably more. Thus we only suggest them for long term owners that will retain a new rig for a lengthy period. There is nothing wrong with the Verado 250 Pro and they are very nice. Though it would depend on how long you intend on keeping your next rig. BCB
Also, not all Mercury shops can work on a Verado! I have friends with them that have to drive pretty fair distances to find a certified Mercury Verado mechanic. It takes more schooling that many guys do not have at this point.
Well looking at all of this with the goal in mind to be able to get into another new boat each year I would say my safest bet is going to be to stay with the Pro XS. Was just wondering about the new motors as I have not seen any of them around this area yet.
