Minn Kota Ultrex questions

Gentlemen, the Ultrex has now been around for long enough for some real time reviews. Those of you that have them, any regrets? I was watching the Classic today and saw several pros with Ultrexs on their boats and it was really neat to see them fishing offshore and being able to hit the spot lock when they hooked a fish to make sure they stayed on the same spot. Thats a no brainer but how about using the troller in shallow water beating the bank. Does it perform like a normal troller or is it awkward in the shallows? How is it in Grassy situations since most of my fishing is in shallow grassy areas? Also, what is the weight of the ultrex as compared to a 36 volt motor guide? The Ultrex is all MinnKota in the grass and it performs just like a regular cable drive in normal operation. Get the 45 or 50″ as you see normally.

Just fished with my brother this weekend and used his that he had installed this spring. The grass performance is just what you expect when you hear “Minn Kota”. Unparalleled. This weekend we fished clear water and it operated just like conventional MK would. When he hooked up with a fish, he showed just how effective spot lock can be… he turned it on when he got the fish in the boat and was able to unbutton the fish, weigh it and cull tag then prep his bait without drifting out of position. Looks like some kind of motor assisted steering ? So , can a transducer wire be run down the shaft ? Or does the built in transducer have down scan capability as well as 2D

Got mine installed early Feb. Replaced a motorguide that was very difficult to control in higher thrust range. I have the 24v, 80 lb thrust, 45 in shaft on a 2008 classic. It has made fishing very enjoyable again, even on windy days.

Yes on assisted steering, you can control it with your fingers. Yes on transducer wire down the shaft, just leave enough slack for motor to turn a little more than 180 in both directions. I was told the built in transducer is 2d only.

Whats exactly involved in switching from a Fortrx to the Ultrex, how hard is it? I would really like one for my 2017 Eyra.
