If I see smoke or flames erupting from that area I am not even gonna lift the lid and take a peak. I am gonna run/swim as fast as I can and call 911. Easier to buy new boat than body parts.Haha…I get it! I understand.Well I have had the displeasure of putting a boat fire out in a garage at a friend of mines house. The battery charger started the fire (he left it plugged in all the time). BCB is right, gas and oil will burn not explode. I believe explosion comes fromt he fumes…not 100% sure about that. Anyway I was hitting it with the garden hose and then he found the fire extinguisher (kept in the front rod locker). He gave it to me while he tried to get the garage door open (the breaker tripped and he couldnt find the cord to release the opener) and I hit the bilge area with the extinguisher which is about the equivilent of peeing on a hot campfire. The garden hose is what got the flames under control and out. About that time he pulled the boat out of the garage and I continued to hit it with the hose until the fire dept showed up. Though the insurance company and the boat manufacturer took care of him, in hind sight probably would have been best to let it burn had it not been in the garage. Im glad I showed up that night otherwise it could have been real bad.
