I had to remove the bushing on rear deck (the white one , black one on front deck ok) as it was cracked pretty bad. Nightmare to get out but finally got it done. Now the problem is…after installing the new white bushing that I got from Basscat, and I might add it was actually harder to get flush to the deck than getting the broken one out by far…now the sit down seat extension nor the hydraulic seat pole (both originally on the boat or I had replaced thru Basscat order) will go into the hole in the bushing? I could possibly force in but I can tell you would have to use a rubber mallot on that extension pole to make go down and not at all sure it would? Problem is then getting it back out as I put that extension in about 1″ and had to use a pry bar to get it back out along with a lot of WD40. Those seat extensions and hydraulics same ones I have been using for years and they worked fine prior to replacing that bushing and they both work fine on the front deck now. Any ideas on why so tight and what can I do to make this work??????????? I figured the new bushing would be slightly snug as have replaced on other boats before but not this snug.
The insertion of the new bushings is done with a block of wood and a very large hammer. Like a 4 pound sledge hammer, and a solid lick on the block to drive the bushing in to prevent mushrooming of the collar. If you worked it in then you swelled it and may have to drill it or sand/file it to allow the pin to fit.
I did use a block of wood and large rubber mallot but did take quite a number of hits to get seated. I also just read in the archives to do what you just told me to do. So will very deliberately ream out the hole a little at a time so will still get a snug fit. Throughout the day the extensions from front to rear are changed a couple times to accomodate whoever is in front – using either the stand up butt seat or the sit down comfort seat. Is it likely that mainly just the collar is mushroomed then so only need to do top 1/2″ or less? Thanks for responding Basscat.
Odds are you compressed the whole bushing and will have to go full length.
Not answer I was hoping for but will just take a little longer to do all the way. Thanks again
Had same problem on my 02 P3. Solved by drilling out hole with a 3/4″ forstner bit. It works perfectly and leaves the hole totally smooth, as opposed to using a regular wood or metal bit.
