On the tandem axle trailers with a “pop axle” does it really enable you to maneuver the boat and trailer like a single axle. When I pull into my driveway I have to unhook my boat and physically turn a 90 degree to position my boat before I can put it in garage. I have been hesitant to purchase a boat with a tandem axle thinking it would be impossible to do this.
Yes it does, you have to crank the boat up as high as it goes after you engage the pop axle, but then it will move as a single axle. An alternative is to get a pair of go-jacks.-Joe
Go Jacks? What are they I am not familiar. Where can you get them?
I have a 90 degree turn from my driveway into the basement. The pop axle option works as advertised and I highly recommend it. Operation takes less than 90 seconds pinning the axle up, or dropping it back down. I have a few pictures I would be happy to send you via email. Thanks! You can send pics to ] I am still curious about the go jacks
Pictures sent.
Had them on my 06 Puma. Worked well. Had to pull the front axle wheels up on a wooden block to get the axle high enough to slide the arm under the axle. That was the only thing I did not like. However, there was no way to push a dual axle trailer into a basement garage at a 90 degree angle without it.
How do you engage the pop axle?
Here they are http://www.toolrage.com/prodView.asp?idproduct=1042 The pop axle works great, but if you are looking at a dual axle without that feature, the go jacks would be a good alternative.-Joe
Kdaves, Have the same 90 degree issue you have and then have to turn again when in the garage. Have had 3 Basscats, the first one did not have the Pop-Axle and was tough, I mean tough to manuever, never got it back in the same spot twice. Last two (Puma and New FTD) have the Pop-axles and I cannot live without them. I use 2 wooden blocks to pull the front axle up on then pull the rings, slide the bars, and then put it into place. They allow me to get it into a really tight place and in the same “sweet” spot each time which allows form movement around the boat in the garage, It actually takes up the whole garage from one corner to far back corner. You wont regret getting them for sure. Thanks, Chris
