Power Pole Blades Pro/Con

I realize each boat, motor, and prop is different but what is the usual speed difference with 2 blades or without? 5mph? Thinking about getting my first set next year but at the same time trying to ask myself if the little amount I used them would it be worth it.

I had 2 PP blades and sold them. They were a good product but I didnt use them much.When I fish by myself, I still had to tie off the nose of the boat because it would drift and I really dont fish very shallow. I guess if you bed fish a lot or stay shallow they are good.

I use mine all the time. I struggled with that decision quite a while and got two 10 foot poles. It did slow my hole shot a little. I changed to a lower pitch prop and solved that. Top end decreased 2-3 mph, but off 80, I wasnt worried about that. Im very pleased with having them. Use them a lot more than anticipated.

I just have one 8 Blade and use it about everytime I fish at some point. Around the ramp it makes things easier too. 2 poles would be better but one is a must for me. I had it on my boat when I ordered it so cant say how much it slowed me down

I have a puma ftd with 250 pro xs and dual PP. They are 2010 model so probably heavier than the blades.It did hurt my hole shot some and top end about 2 mph. Like dr jag I went to a 25 p fury prop, On Lanier here I seldom am able to WOT due to pleasure boats anyways.When I go to guntersville or lake like that they are valuable,On lanier I use them at the dock, Still tie up but push boat away and lower the poles, Waves here are bad so that keeps boat from banging.I fish tournaments solo sometimes so Ill dump my boat and once it floats out Ill lower the poles (need remote control) then catch a ride out with someone else. Lunch time in summer I;ll find a shady spot on shore, anchor and we eat our sammiches (as K Short says)If were out for fun and go swimming Ill anchor boat on sandy beach.If I want to stay stationary on a deep point and wind is blowing with waves Ill lower them and that helps steady the boat.If I want to fish along a windy point or bank Ill lower them and that slows boat down and just steer with the TM.My mechanic is not very fond of them though.

1-1.5 mph on top end in my case. probably different in others case. probably a second or less in hole shot. again different for others.power poles are useful for shallow water fishing so you have to judge how much shallow water fishing you do. high water this year at Rayburn and T Bend have allowed the use all year thus far. other years much different.

I put a pair of 8 blades on before I ever took my Sabre out for the first run. While I cant say exactly what it cost in speed, I dont think it was much at all. Factory setup with a 150 4 stroke Merc it runs 63.5 gps with me and my normal load on the rev. limiter which I felt was pretty good. I sent my Tempest off to Mark Croxton Monday to have the pitch increased 1″ to a 24″, and let him balance and blueprint it, so hopefully ill pick up a little more top end.

The blades are nice too when crappie fishing with the kids in the spring. Find a shallow water top and camp out. Allows me to bait hooks and take off dish with having to maneuver the boat all the time in spring winds.
