I recently purchased a Sabre with a 175 ProXS. I received a 25p 4 blade Tempest plus with the motor. I havent gotten through my break in period yet but at short clips Im seeing 5500-5600 max Rpms and 64mph before I start chining. I know there are many different variables to getting optimum performance. Any other Sabre owners with a 175hp with 4 blade props? Should I move to a 3 blade prop? Any info would be great. Thanks for your time guys.
Carry all the heavy stuff in the back so you can fly the nose with only a little positive trim. This sounds real good but in practice its hard to do. Very little storage back there compared to the front.
Jstew, Im set up with a good bit of gear. Not really worrying about set up until Im done with the break in period but I do know that Ill need to lower the jack plate as Im throwing one hell of a roster tail when trimmed out right now. That Pro XS hums too. Not as loud as I thought it would be either
Jstew DOES put the heavy stuff in back. It can be done as Ive seen and ridden in his Sabre/150 setup. A lot of it is “wants” versus “needs” for the fishing day. Nothing wrong with a trophy on a Sabre, just not that common. I ran my 89 Sabre with a 95 model 175 EFI into the 73 mph range with a trophy. Then too, it depends on location and altitude as some variables why a trophy may have been put on the boat. At one time they were very popular, in fact enough that Mercury is coming out with a 4 blade fury for heavy loads… Not necessarily applicable to a BassCat but it is there.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Very little storage back there compared to the front.Actually quite simple to do. I used to have an extremely “organized” front box but my nose was difficult to lift and my speed had dropped off 5 mph. Ivan at BCB told me it was tackle creep. I carry a dozen planos behind the passenger box and a 30lb bag of soft plastics behind my seat. Up front are the baits Im most likely to use for the day ( about 3 trays) and 12-15 bags of soft plastics. Rarely do I need anything from the back, but its there when I do. Everything else is is light. Rain gear, net, jackets, and rods in the side boxes and remainder of the center. He told me 10lbs on the nose equals 100lbs in the rear equals 1mph. The Sabre is weight distribution critical in tourney trim. It doesnt carry weight as easily as the bigger rigs without thought and a little effort.Mine is a 150efi, but itll run 67 light with a clean 24 Tempest. Same setup, fully loaded for a tourney 62. Put a 24 Trophy on, and it runs high and clean “heavy” at 63-64. With a “light” nose, it flies the nose easier with half the trim and a long low rooster. I had significantly more wheel torque and a high tail at flush plate, 3 blade, and full trim. This is a pre-tweak hull that would be 1-2 slower than whats made now. Now Im at 3.25″ PTP. With a 175, add 3-4mph.Last edited by jstew on April 6th, 2016, 2:47 pm, edited 2 times in total.
