Prop question

To the smart people with all the information at there, please explain the difference in performance in a 4 blade and a 3 blade prop. Can you say that a 3 blade 25P trophy would be close to a 24P 4 blade Trophy? I had a 25p Tempest 3 blade on my 05 Classic but could not turn but 5150 rpm at about 5000 feet elev. I got a 4 blade Trophy 24P now but havent had a chance to run do to snow and ice on the water. Will this prop help me out with rpms and top end or hole shot? I have a 200 efi 2005 on it. Also how do I find the gear slip? Thank you for your help.

just a suggestion. it would be cheaper to have your current prop “tuned” for your boat. personally id like to see the rpms around 5800, especially this time of year.

My motor max RPM is 5500. I know that some will say that I can go more, but I will trust the manufacturers max RPM range. In the long run, I think it would be more expensive to “tune” a prop to run over the max RPMs and possibly damage my motor. I stated in original post that I “can” turn 5600, but I do not do this because of my stated limits. Kent You can run 5500, though more wont hurt. The Fury will handle your needs.

26 Fury 27 Trophy 27 Tempest My opinion for the general population in the order above. Trophy will give better control. Fury is best all around prop.

26 Fury or 27 Trophy would definitely be my 2 picks. A 26 Trophy does an excellent job too but I suspect it will bump the limiter in colder weather. I ran one of those on my 08 FTD after it warmed up last year. Kevin – I have a 26 Fury and 27 Trophy if you want to try them let me know and I am sure we can hook up sometime. Judd Lasiter

Thanks guys! I went with the 26 Fury, it was rough out so didnt get to play too much. It did jump on plane about 50% quicker. Not sure on top end, I managed to stomp on it once right at dark, it jumped to 74 ish and hit 6k on rpms a lot quicker than my 27 Tempest so I may try a 27 Fury to see if I can keep the rpms down while staying up there. Anyone tried the 27 Fury?

There are two 27 Furys in existence. The project is not completed yet nor do we know if it will be. That is an ongoing discussion for the folks in the propeller division. BCB

What rpms are you turning at those speeds you posted? From my experience I will say that a trophy will help you with a better holeshot and keeping you on plane at slower speeds. I cant speak for the fury, I have not had a chance to try one. I personally like the trophy over the tempest as an all around prop, but the tempest is usually a little faster….but not always.

Sounds like you probably need a 24 Fury. Possibly a 25 depending on your current rpms with the 25 Temp. plus.
