Though we assume that to be a direct injection engine, or is it an EFI version. If it is an Optimax engine, then those were light in 1997. If it is an EFI version they were finicky on hole shot and required the TPI to be properly set at all times. Plus they would burn an occasional plug too. The propellers wont cross over, and the 5 blades were common on Opti engines in that year model range.

JW, Im a fan of a High Five as well. I keep a 23P for my 250 Pro XS, when I want to fish in real shallow water, and know I need to pop the hull up quickly. If you can turn a 25 Trophy, then look for a 25 Hi-Five. Youll have all of the benefits, and still keep most of your speed. Mike Whitten, Germantown, TN

A Fury will come without a hub in it. You purchase the hub you need for your motor. This makes it so much easier for dealers since now they only have to carry the props in different pitches and then carry hubs for various motors. The hubs are simple to install and do not need pressing in like other props. The nice thing is, you can carry an extra hub with you and change it yourself very easily if you spin a hub.

I guess I should have a spare hub on the boat as well, sounds like it compares to a spare tire for a truck. I guess when decide on a prop the dealer should have the hub I can purchase as well. Buckeye – Will a high 5 still maintain the top end as well? Ill have to take a look at them this afternoon. I know I cant have everything (performance wise), But I can sacrifice some top end for a better hole shot.

With a hi 5 you will have a excellant hole shot , but you will loose ALOT on top end , hi 5s are usually good if you pull skis or a tube . I dont think there a good choice if all you do is fish . I prefer the Tempest and Fury for my Puma

Well the High 5 is out of the question, thanks for clearing that up. I never pull tubes or skiers. Just fish. Im not sure what my max rpm is (rev. limiter). I normally run 5750-5800 Water press is around 18-20 (wot)I have never measured below pad. Im wanting to say 3.5 or soWater temp is normally upper 70-low 80 in summerAltitude is around 2600-2800 if my memory is correctLooking for a good hole shot, doesnt have to be great, I will settle for good.I have tried to move weight around. I do notice when Im fishing by myself my hole shot is a lot better. But when I get my partner and his gear the bow is in the air forever. Driver side tank .25 full and passenger side .75 full. Of course Im a pretty big boy at 66″ and 320. and my partner around 280 I know we have alot of weight just in the set…haha

Good info there! You might want to try a 24 Fury or maybe a 25. Should help your hole shot a lot. See if you can find someone close to you so you can try one first without buying.

See that is another problem, More than likely Ill have to buy it than try it. Not many boat shops in WV. I take mine to TN if I have serious issues with it. Just wondering does anyone know the rpm where the rev. limiter kicks on for a 96 PII Mariner 2.5 200? I just dont want to go down to a fury 24p if Im all over the rev. limiterI have never hit it with a Tempest 25p so would the Fury 24p be the same or would/could I get in the rev. limiter? Or is this one of those things you just have to put on the boat and try?

No rev limiter on a 96 Mariner 200 2.5liter. I ran a 97 Merc 200 EFI, same engine, for years. I ran around 6k rpms and occasionally higher, up to 6300rpms(Pennzoil Premium Plus, but thats another post…inside joke) without any problems. Normal operating range would have been 55-5800 rpms. This was “pre-Fury” days, and I ran this with a 26 Trophy. The trophy is generally considered better for holeshot than the tempest, and you really do not give up any speed compared to a tempest.
