What seems to be the best Insurance Company and Rates for boats that exceed 70mph?Thankyou for your help!
Progressive was the best I found. It was around 400 dollars for the year covering complete new replacement for 38K. Ive needed to use it and they got me a check quickly. Its the first time Ive gotten more back from an insurance company than I paid.
As a State Farm Insurance Agent I have to say go with State Farm. But whatever company you choose be sure your liability limits a are adequate. Accidents on the water do happen and your personal assests are at risk if your liability limits are too low. Also, if you want your equipment covered such as rods and reels be sure to add some personal property coverage to the policy. Your homeowners policy typically will cover for loss to your equipment from theft or fire but if the rods are kicked over board there will be no coverage under the homeowners policy. Chet
ANPAC!!American National Property and Casualty. They help sponsor some fishing tournaments in the midcentral and have very cheap rates on auto and homeowner. Plus, they give you a check of 25% of your premiums if you go claim free for the year.
From our experience, these are all good options.BCB
Ill second the vote for Progressive. Ive got complete replacement for 06 Cougar set at 46,000, high liability, accessories 7000, tackle, etc set at 10,000. Premium is $386per year. I live in Indiana. My agent told me that when I move to Alabama…the premium may go up some due to being able to use the boat all year long. So rates may vary depending on your location. Thats pretty normal for almost any type of insurance.
As billus said it will depend state to state, I have Progressive on my 07 Puma, the premium is a little over $600 because I live in Fl. If you fish tournaments make sure they cover your boat if its in a tournament, a lot of companies dont.
Allstate wrote and cancelled my boat policy twice. 1st time said it was too fast, then the 2nd time said it had to much outboard. Was real annoying, Progressive was almost a grand, finally went with United Marine Underwriters for a little over 6 hundred. Allstate was the cheapest, but I got tired of playing games with them. I dont know what the deal is with Progressive. I hear about them haivng great rates on stuff all the time, but they have NEVER given me a decent quote. Always been the most expensive. Trucks, boats, motorcycles, etc… Speaking of Allstate… my rates have climbed astronomically since Katrina on my commercial work trucks, yet Ive had no changes in drivers, no accidents, no tickets etc in about 5 years. WHich insurance companies carry commerical that are not heavily invested in the south and east? –Bob La Londe Forums, Free Lures, Product Reviewswww.YumaBassMan.com CNC Molds N Stuffwww.CNCMOLDS.com
Bob,Check with your local State Farm agent. I write a lot of commercial vehicles and we are very competitive. As far as boats go as long as it is not powered over the hull plate rating we will write it. Chet
Progressive all the way. Like Billius, I have total replacement value and $10K on contents. Also includes boat towing as well as to vehicle towing. My experiences (Auto, Home and Boat) with State Farm have all been negative, and I wouldnt recommend them to anybody; and yes, one of my good friends and fellow Bass Cat owners is a State Farm Agent… Gary Hollander
