Which Rod Straps do you prefer? (Your vote has been cast.)Total votes: 103 Bungee Style rubber straps? 31(30%) BCB Style 2″ web straps with SS buckle and velcro? 45(44%) Rod buckle ratchet spring loaded straps with quick buckles? 27(26%)You may select 1 optionWe have an opinion and an example on Rod Straps, though we really would like your input on the subject as to what style Rod securing you prefer. We have long preferred our custom made straps, and we offer the bungee straps on some models Though please feel free to vote for your preference. We will let you all know more later. Thank You! BCBPS: In 2011 we will be offering the IMCO Rod buckles as an option. We really appreciate the time each of you took to give us one of your over 100 opinions on this poll. We have our opinion and we have other videos that are more subtle. We are not opponents of IMCO Rod Buckles and we think we know how to mount them with less issue. Though we are all about function and this is but one example. Obviously the old fashioned Bass Cat 2″ webbing and Velcro with a SS loop won this challenge. The newer to BCB owners are the ones who are after the IMCO buckles and we understand they want something they are more familiar with, thus it will eventually be an option. We really do appreciate your opinions. BCBLast edited by bassCat1971 on July 27th, 2010, 9:33 pm, edited 3 times in total.
I really like my good ole fashion bungee straps. I can fit more rods and they have never failed me. Just call me old school on this one. Chris CoupelPaulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
Rod buckle retractable rod straps it what I prefer. I have had them on my past two BassCats and loved them. Also, little to no water came into my rod lockers in the heaviest of storms as well as water soak cleaning my front deck. Actually the self seal themselves with the rod straps retracted. Just my two cents…. Thanks for asking our input.
I prefer the rubber bungee straps
Have owned 2 of 3 above.Bungee. Would be nice to find a way to customize them so you minimize the knee-jerk response that they are somehow cheap. Part of what I appreciate about my boat is that money is spent where it counts and excessive crap is avoided unless significant benefit is derived. As I was changing out a livewell light the other day I reflected upon how much I appreciated this approach. My velcros will hold about 8 rods and take just a second or so to get em right so there is enough contact. Man you can slap down a ton of rods quickly with a bungee. There is compression on the rods as well which is nice.C.O.D. Jr. III
I requested the custom rod straps with velcro on the rod storage lids when ordering though Ivan recommended the bungee straps placed in front of the lids. He said mounting the straps on the lid might allow water to get in the storage. I havent experienced a water issue. My thought with the velcro straps on the lids was I could open the lids with rods still in the straps. That hasnt really worked out for me. I think I was able to do that on my previous boat because it had the side pockets in the console for the rod tips. Ive also found that with the straps on the lids the rods will slide back and push the tips against the console or they slide outside the boat gunnels when I drive in really rough waters. I bought some bungee straps from Bass Pro and will install them to help protect the rods better. Not sure if I should just leave the velcro straps on or remove them and caulk up the screw holes.
After 6 BCBs, the velcro straps never failed me!
Ive had three BassCats with the velcro straps, they have been perfect…there is nothing to fail. Ive had one boat with the retractable straps, the reel quit working and I was stuck with no way to fix it. I had another boat with the bungee cords, while they were nice, they rot in the sun and have to be replaced. Velcro is fail safe.
The velcro staps work and are the most secure straps available. The retractable straps are nice and have some advantages, but can lead to lost rods in very rough water. Bungee cords……….cheapest thing made, more secure than the retractable type, but not for me on a 55-65 K boat. Either the velcro straps or the retractable type for me.
I prefer the velcro for rough water use. They dont hold as many rods, take a little more time, and if you dont get the first eyelet of each rod in front of the strap, the rods will slide down and pinch off the rod tips between the console and side. 6mm tips are the worst and usually get replaced with 7 or 8mm so it doesnt happen again. Back to the velcro – they are the only ones I feel confident in for strapping my rods down and running a little ways in rough water. The velcro does wear out though- Ive got two on order now and I really hope I get them soon since my next tournament (leaving next week) is on Lake Michigan.I also like the rubber bungee cord as well for normal water conditions. I have thought of installing a bungee strap right behind the one velcro strap to use for these times. Ive never used the retractable, and though it seems like a clean look, I would be worried about them failing.
