Trolling Motor Problem

I got my boat out this week after a few months of deer and duck hunting and it started messing up and it had never done it before. Its a minn kota fortrex 101 and whenever i go to deploy it it will not latch. Ive checked and messed around with it and i just can not find anywhere that i think is loose or in a bind. It has never done that before and i cant remember bumping or hitting it and im out of ideas have any of yall had this problem

You have a bad armature and it needs replaced. Common problem with that year troller.

Replacing the stator in the motor head is possible, and not that difficult if you have a lot of mechanical ability and the tools. It may just need some cleaning up on the brush area. Otherwise take it to a Minn Kota service center and they can test for seal leaks, shaft run out and the switches as well. Should not be that expensive to repair. I replaced the stator, bearings and seals in mine last year for under $100. But I have the runout gages & tools to do all that stuff.

Most would drop it off for a repair and the cost is not that much Over parts costs. Though you can tackle it yourself if you want to. There are plenty of good troller shops that will do it, Jones, Knife and many more.

If it is one of the original Fortrex models then check to see if the latch arm is plastic and visit a trolling motor center. They will know about it.
