Vault Bearing repair

While cleaning the boat realized I have one of the wheel bearings leaking. This is a 2011 Cougar that has Vault bearings. Assuming I have to replace the whole set on all axles. The guy that works on our cars said he should be able to do the fix. He mentioned it just may need a seal ?? Wondering what is recommended, and any pitfalls to avoid. Also is there any warranty by Vault, thought there is a 10 year warranty ??Of course this is happening less than a week before the only tournament I plan to fish all Summer, the North Star regional. Hopefully Bass Cat can overnight this item ??!!??Thanks in advance, Bill

I think you would only need to replace the seals but Id probably order the bearing and races also. I just redid mine and was sent the wrong bearings. One fit, the other didnt. Bass Cat overnighted the correct ones but Id have a backup plan if planning a tournament. I had a hard time finding anything locally, couldnt believe it.Besides the mess, its easy to do with the right tools. Vault is a 5 year warranty with extension offered for 10 years. The grease is a special lubricant that is oil when operating and thickens when sitting (thixotropic) and the seal is a special double lip seal. BCB

If I remember correctly its a pain to remove the seals. I think they use red lock tite…but I cant remember for sure.

my 09 had the same issue and I ordered the entire hub assembly from BCB. Alan did give me a bit of info (ph #) to the makers of the hubs and then from there I was given another number in which I asked about this “special” grease.as I was told, the grease (marine) will all work. it is a type that will somewhat liquefy (as was mentioned) and then return to more of a solid state one cooled down. I hated to see them go to a “sealed” hub instead of the hub where you could insert grease as it leaked out until you could replace the worn parts.you can change seals/ bearings etc. it looks like any other trailer hub/bearing setup that I have ever seen.my point is: hub assembly is nothing special, grease doesnt come from fairys feet.Alan in parts is your friend, as has been mentioned on many occasions here on this board.if I can find the names and numbers of those I spoke with, I will return and post for everyone.

I talked to Allan in parts today. And he set me up with the complete hub all assembled with grease in it. Well see if it gets here in two days, hopefully it will. Alan always does a great job when I get him on the phone. Great guy!

#1 cause of seal failures is line wrapping the back spindle seal from boat ramps. Really makes you love the guys who empty their spools driving home from the lake.

and those guys suck. like the ones who do it in the water as they drive around. seals in lower units are not cheap nor easy either.

As usual Allan exceeded my expectations. Ordered the hub yesterday and received it around noon today. Was a 2nd day delivery order. My hats off to Allan, and Fed-ex if I recall correctly. Allan told me my mechanic will have to take off the brake assembly since it is on the rear axle, then remove and replace the hub. Then replace the brake assembly, and rebleed the brake line. I seem to recall a certain bolt has a tendency to work its way out, and needs a special type of lock tight. Can anyone tell me which bolts to lock tight, and what type of lock tight to use ???Another thing that came to mind is jacking up the axle/tire assembly. Any dos or dont??? I may see if he will use my “trailer buddy”, I know that should not be harmful to the trailer. But that may not elevate the area enough.Thanks again to Allan !!!!!!!!!!!!
