what Lb fishing line should i use for 5/16 oz jig and what brand maybe gamma edge or p line halo been useing p line halo not sure i like to much at times
Wildcat, How are you fishing it? As for brand, I have been using Vicious Flurocarbon all season for my jigs with EXCELLENT results in several line sizes. I have caught several nice bass along with some very large drum and catfish and it has held up wonderfully. I caught one 5+ pound bass on a finesse worm on 8 pound test in shallow water around rocks and wood and the line did its job perfectly. Let me know if you are flipping, pitching, casting, swimming, etc., and I will gladly try to help. Have a blessed day, AJ
Wildcat, I will second the flourocarbon for these jigs, and most often on Pickwick and Ky lake, I will use either 12 or 15#, with 15 being the heaviest I will go. I have, on fairly rare occasions dropped down to 10#, but no lighter on the 5/16 and 7/16 oz jigs. On a lakes like Bull or Norfork, 8# might be needed, but in my part of the world 12 works fine, and gets you some margin for operator error. Mike Whitten/Germantown, TN

Ive been using P-Line Flourocarbon since it came out 3-4 years ago and it is great. P-Line Halo came out about a 6-8 months ago and its even better. Why youre not satisfied is a mystery to me! If youre wanting to fish jigs then I would use nothing less than 15 lb test. You have to remember, the stronger the line you use with true flourocarbon the stiffer and less manageable it becpmes. This is true of all the true flourocarbons. Halo is a new blend and is more manageable than any of the true flourocarbons. Side by side compared with any of the cheap brands of flourocarbons, theres no contest on which is the strongest. Hence, you get what you pay for. Viscious is one and is supposedly made in the U.S. and I may be wrong, but the last time I checked there were only 3 companies that produced all the true flourocarbons. Two were in Japan and one was in Germany! Below is a 32 lb sack that my buddy and I caught using P-Line Flourocarbon and P-Line Halo in 15 lb. test and Rapala DT 10s. Any line in the P-Line brand is good and is better than most. By the way, if youre fishing dingy water, brush, grass, do not hesitate to use braid! Good luck with your decision and hope you find what youre looking for.
Wildcat, Either 10 or 12 for the casting and either 15 or 20 for flipping and pitching depending primarily on how much heavy cover you are fishing around should work well for you. I personally lean a bit to the lighter side when I can for better control and feel but will admit that at times I need to move to heavier line strength when fishing extremely heavy cover. I pitch a 5/16 jig a lot and about 90% of the time it is on 15 pound test and casting is about 60% on 10 pound test. Here is a link to order it directly online. http://www.vicious-fishing.com/vicious- … /index.php Have a blessed day, AJ
Just curious about the knot you all are using with the flourocarbon??
Palomar….. Be sure when you tie the palomar knot to wet the knot as you cinch it down and cinch down the tag end rather than the main line.
thanks again guys it was very helpful .phill thats one hell of a stringer nice job
P-Line Premium 10lb test. Its a small diameter line and you can get it in clear or moss green.
