The 2011 BMC is a very difficult one for me to process. I live here and fish the waters every week. A few factors are beginning to take place that I see affecting the BMC. Unseasonably low water seems to be a major problem, and has seemed to affect the migration pattern of spawners. Decreased fishing time due to long runs of 2+ hours during the prime of the bight as well. I believe 19 pounds per day is the champ. I also believe that there will not be a clear cut dominant leader on the final day. I actually think any angler in the top 12 could still make a charge and win. I look for all of the BCB pro staff to do well as they have been scouting the proper areas and with the proper help. These are the weights that I see taking place Day 1 leader will have 22-24 poundsDay 2 leader will have 38-40 pounds, cut (top 25) 28 poundsDay 3 winner 57-60 poundsThis will be a very tight BMC.Im still debating between 5 anglers to win this thing and none have won before.Hackney,Crews,Butcher,McClelland, and B. Lane
We are riding hard on the BCB anglers. They should all have a good Classic.
I agree. this classic will be a hard fought battle to the end. Low water can easily change to high cold and muddy, should the mid section of the nation begin to warm up and melt the snow up north and send in influx of higher colder water down the mighty mississippi. I think alot of the pros are going to make that run down to venice, though i think it will be won closer, by someone who finds a good pre spwan or spawn bite area and milks it out for everything it has. If there is a week of warm weather leading up to the classic, i feel it will take around 21lbs per day to win the classic, though most of the field will have between 14-18lbs per day. With Ikes previous success at the classic it seems to fit his style of fishing very well and has to be one of the favorites going into this event, dont count out Gary Klein though as he also does well there. The angler who wins this event will be the one who thinks on his feet and constantly changes to to the surrounding conditions whether that is the tides, the weather, and also the stage of the fish (pre spawn or spawn), so that means KVD should always be considered as he seems to be the best there is about making on the water adjustments and i think he remembers the classic from Shreveport where he failed to make adjustments needed to do well there is is looking for some louisiana redemption. As for areas i would venture to say Lake Catouatchie or the des allemands area. Though it wil be hard to rule out the venice area, if winds and tides are favorable venice will play a major role, and many anglers will make that run. Either way, the weather will be the deciding factor of this event and anglers making on the water decisions will be a close 2nd to that, and it really could turn into an all out slugfest given the right conditions.
I hope its a good classic and the waether/fog cooperates. Maybe my buddy Mark Davis will pull it off flippin a Strike King jig or plastic.
Dont discount M.I. ! Or KVD, but agree Mark Davis should do well, and Hackney will be tough, i swear hes got gills !Butcher, Crews, Lane, and especially Rook has something to prove also.
Lets not forget Skeet Reese, a very versatile fisherman. He grew up fishing the Cal Delta and knows tidal waterways. He will have a strong showing.

I think its going to be anyone game. Being born and breed in south Louisiana (Go Tigers!!!) I can tell you this time of year can and will be tuff for most!!! I think the winning stringer will come from an area south of Hwy 90. Thats an easy statement for me to make, but some may disagree?
I believe the weights will be a little lower than HappyHour predicted. Those weights are achievable down here (not by me but were talking about the best in the world) but the conditions would have to be perfect. Stable weather and a nice warming trend leading up to the classic could bring a new Classic record but I predict otherwise. We have had some abnormally long stretches of cold weather and next week looks like 5 or 6 straight days of Low 30 degree temps at night. The week after leading up to the classic may be warmer and I hope so for the competitors. Im predicting somewhere in the 52 lb range for the winner. I would not be surprised to see atleast one 25lb bag come from the Bayou Segnette area but it will be hard to catch a consistantly big sack there due to pressure, local traffic, and unpredictable weather conditions. The Des Allemands area will surprise some folks and I wouldnt be surprised at all to see the winner come from here with a 20lb sack one of the days and a couple of solid days of 15-16 lbs. I know Venice is the big favorite but I just dont think the weather is going to let the Competitors make the run 3 days in a row with the possibility of fronts, High winds, and if anyone has ever been socked in by fog downriver you know what Im talking about. It can get bad down there when the temps are right. No doubt the fish are there in Venice. If conditions allow three days of clean running down there then it will produce the winning sack. Also, Dont forget about Bayou Black. Its healthy now and 18lb stringers are catchable in that area during the spawn. Its about half the run as going to venice and can produce nearly as well when the spawn is in full swing. I am hoping to see a couple of 10 lb fish weighed in for the tournament. No, we dont have them like Florida but They are here and Id love for the Best in the world to put our great fishery on Showcase!I predict someone is going to find them a little honey hole in the des allemands area then spend a couple of hours a day in The Catahuache area and shock everyone with the victory. Id love to see Gary Klein finally win a Classic and hes got just as good a chance as any, but there are so many good fisherman its hard to pick. If Ive got to pick five anglers Ill Say, Klein, Hackney, Ike, KVD, Crews, Cliff Pace, Skeet ( I cant just pick five so I picked 7)Chris CoupelPaulina, La. Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
Chris you are correct!! I agree, dont count out the Des Allemands area!! Everyone thinks Venice, but I have to go with your choices also.
I could tell you who will win, but that would mess up my fantasy fishing. HahahahaJim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console

If any of you guys have ever fished the delta, you know what happy hour is talking about. He is the best in the business around those parts of the delta. If you dont have local knowledge around the delta you are in big trouble, not with cathing fish but how to get to the area where the fish are. Put your boat in at Venice, take a 15 minute ride and and not knowing what you are doing and you are either stuck and lost!!!!! Good luck to all the guys fishing.
I have family in Luling and got the pleasure to spend a day on Des Allemands with a nice man named Roy Lunk from Des Allemands. We caught some fish and he showed me some great water. The crossing of Lake Salvador to get to Des Allemands from Segnette? looked like a real treat with a stout south wind on it. 4 deep far as the eye can see and not a single friggin interruption of the water to the horizon…Would love to see Iaconellis hat cam video on that little jaunt! Im taking Hackney, Ike, KVD, Rook, and someone else willing to beat the tar out of a boat that understands tides. Without the ability to predict fish in moving water all the help in the world doesnt matter. Be that the Delta for BMC or Little Rock in June. Having been flying in and out of Venice for the last 3 weeks and seeing the delta and water conditions down there it maybe tough. with all these fronts going thru lately it has dirtied the water considerably and we flew over a canal i fished a few months ago on a low tide and it was dry last week when that last front passed. I dont think a mud boat could have gotten to the back and fished the holes back there. The fog when it starts to get cold is horrible, it kept us from flying till about 2pm for 3 days last week. Lake Salvador and the Davis pond areas are doing pretty good but all the dredging and construction along Hwy 90 has been muddying up the area some. I hope they get some halfway stable weather to even things up some.
