Mine is the same way. Inquiring minds want to know.

My winch is slightly off center causing my strap to rub against the inside of the winch. I noticed there are three bolts holding the winch to the winch plate, but didn’t see any way to adjust it. It just needs to be tweeked so the strap doesn’t rub.
Not quite a year old and I have to cut some of the strap off from being frayed and it is now starting to rip.
What would be the best way (if not adjustable) to twist the winch to the port side about 1/4″?
Most of them will rub a little. Then we (I am guilty here too) will crank hard on the winch and twist the whole thing.
You can loosen the bolts up and twist it some but there isn’t much adjustment there. Maybe BCB will have a better answer but I figured most of the trouble I had on past boats were self induced (over cranking). This one just barely touches the side and hasn’t shown much wear…I have been careful about over tightening too.

Mine was the same way; easy to fix. Remove the black plastic winch cover (two pieces). Then the three bolts are easily accessible. There is plenty of adjustment space to get strap aligned.

Yes! It is very common, and we even mount them crooked on purpose. This tough to explain.
We cant them a little to one side so that the strap does not ride gainst the gear. If yours is against the gear side, then it is twisted. One side is on a rolled barrel and the other is on a flat side of the spool. We try to get the strap to ride the rolled side.
You can reset the bolts a tad, and your winch itself might even be tweaked some which could mean slotting the base holes a tad. It won’t take much.
A new winch would also take care of most of the problems, though that does sound rather extreme for most. Simply loosening and resetting the winch usually works fine.
You can also replace the strap if your is worn.

Mine was slightly off and I took off the black plastic side piece and loosened up the bolts. Straightened it a tad and now I’m in business. STRAIGHT!!

The Winches are supposed to be canted to one side and crooked slightly. The winch strap should rub slightly against the rounded portion of the winch barrel.
