I have a 94 Pantera II with 150 Merc. I did have a 23 Tempest that had quite a bit of work done to it. I could tickle 65 mph gps with it. But, I slung a blade on it. So it is now history. I just bought a Powertech TRO4 last week. Got a 23 pitch. With the 23 I could get almost 64 mph with 50 gallons of fuel and 62 with tanks full and livewells full. But it would only turn around 5500. So I am sending it back for a 22 pitch. I might end up faster with this prop out of the box than the worked tempest I did have. I would definetely try one on your rig. Holeshot with the tempest was good. Holeshot on the powertech wasnt too woopy. But, I figure with the 22 it will improve quite a bit. If you are interested in trying a Powertech give Steve Glenn @ Keystone Propeller Service in Sand Springs, OK a call. He is a cool guy and will help you all he can. His number is 918-245-1222. Matt, I drive a 95 PII with a ProMax 200 and use two props. The Tempest “Plus” and Trophy “Plus” props offer adjustable vent holes so you can virtually dial in your hole shot while carrying a lot of pitch for top end speed. Both are surface piercing props. The Tempest Plus is a drivers prop. It creates more bow lift which works very well with BassCat hulls to create blistering speed. Only problem is you might find the ride a bit loose with a tendency towards chine walk until you develop the “drivers touch” to handle it. It will also cause the boat to slide more in tight turns so its not a good choice for narrow waterways like in the sloughs of our California Delta. The Trophy Plus develops less bow lift and top end but it creates a rock solid ride with excellent cornering for narrow waterways. It also provides neck straining hole shots for getting on pad in shallow water. With a 23p Trophy Plus on my ProMax 200, I can plane out my PII in about a boat length….kind of jumps onto pad like a ski boat.I own both props and change them out based on the water Ill be fishing. Big water = Tempest/top end speed. Skinny water or narrow waterways = Trophy/hole shot and cornering. Yes, I also have to adjust the engine height for optimal performance with each prop so a hydraulic jack plate makes that simple. If you are limited to a single prop, go with the one that most closely meets your typical needs and use the adjustable vent holes to adjust your hole shot.Good luck!Dean “NaCl” Saultps. If you use larger vent holes, you get a stronger hole shot. But the lowest speed you can stay on plane increases due to prop slippage. And, bigger vent holes can cause your prop to cavitate badly on slow speed, tight turns.
thanks for the valuable info just one question i have two big holes and one small one on my tepest 25 should i mess with that, or what does that mean. thanks again matt
I ran a 3 blade prop with 23 pitch on my Saber. It made it run tilted to one side at low speeds and had some prop slippage when I came out of the hole. I switched to a 4 bladed prop and went to a 24 pitch and it runs like a different boat with no problems. I run at 5800 rpms and go about 67 mph. I did not loose or gain any speed but my rpms changed.
i have a 93 pn 2 with a mercury xr6 that runs 70 mph turn loaded with a 23 pitch yamaha prop i have a great hole shot and can turn loose of the wheel at wide open throttle and it runs straight

I have the same setup as you. Got mine two months ago from Airport Marine. Tried three different props. It comes w/ a 24 Tempest, which is not big enough. Will only run 66-67 and rpms will be to high. Tried a 26 Trophy next at the recommendation of dealer. Ran better but max speed was around 70 and was hard to get motor to 5800 rpms. Last tried a 25 Tempest. Ran even better. Top speed so far is around 72. For me this is the best prop when waying speed and holeshot. If you want max speed you probably need to give a 26 Tempest a try. You will probably gain a few miles per hour in speed but will probably have to take a plug out to get holeshot right. I have lowered my motor 1/2″ too. This improved my performance. Had too much steering tourque at factory settting. Dropping it made the boat a lot easier to drive. The dealer did tell me that with a Trophy you do the oposite w/ motor height from a Tempest. So w/ a Tempest if you raised the motor top speed and chinewalking should improve. So you may want to check on that one too.
I had almost an identical set-up. It was a 95 PII with a 200 Mercury EFI. It had a 25p Tempest and ran in the mid to upper 60s depending on the load. Empty I got it up to 73 on a GPS. I tried a 25p Mercury Turbo prop and it wouldnt even come out the hole, it would just blow out. Hope this helps out some.
The turbo prop that I bought used had the same marking, 25M. I was told by a prop shop that it was a Mercury Turbo prop. 25 meaning the pitch.
Some have gone to a Tempest in a 25 and others go with the Pro series in a 25. Either should work on a Pantera III from what I have seen here. Overall not a bad combo unless something is amiss?
That 25M is probably a Yamaha 3 blade. The PIIs run best with a Tempest. Trophys are good, as are the Powertechs. But, the pro series are decent props. I would get with a good shop and have them tune your prop. In any case, with any prop, IMO with a full load on a PII, any prop needs to be tuned to get a good holeshot. We would like to know more about the michigan tourniment for 2004
thanks for the help !!!!brian
This prop does have rubber plugs in and all are full. I may be useing wrong termenology with blow out maybe just getting prop spin. Anyway it goes when she starts to drop to plane out the rpms go up and the bow will not drop. Kind of like the motor is trimmed up to far, it is hard to explain without you in the boat. But thanks for the help and i will let you know if droppin the plate helps anyThanks again Bubba
