Check the FAQ section for help with old boats
Needed to check the FAQ section out. It’s doable but it gonna take work, some fabrication and it may not be the factory lighted rails.
But don’t let anyone tell you it hasn’t been tried for sure.
We used a pre-Vexilar FL10 back in the 1980s on a different brand boat we owned at the time. I think it was called Si Tex back then but look exactly like the FL10. Once you understand the colors and how to interpret, you’ll forget the monochrome Zercom or Lowrance 1240A.
Too little info. No descriptions. Is the motor paid off? Any updates, new carpet, electronics, TM? The question should be “What do YOU value your boat?”
Best thing to do is go over to NADA.com to figure your “used boat” value. Then take into consideration what area of the country you’re in as to whether the value is too high or accurate for the location.
Remember the issue will be finding the right buyer as you won’t likely get what you think it’s worth.
Knowing this, I would think $12-13k would be ballpark if all else being equal, the boat being in average condition.
I had listed our boat about 2 years ago and had pictures also. Carpet was ragged and I explained that the price was adjusted to offset the cost of new carpet. Then when we had new padded carpet done to the boat people were still looking for that deal. But then I felt it would be irresponsible to sell knowing that the trailer we special ordered was a lemon, so I stopped trying to sell.
Now that we paid to get it corrected, if we sell it’s still going to be less than what I put into it. That’s the caveat of updating an older boat
Nice colors on yours. As you can see we’ve done Tons of updates-2006 style seats, MinnKota Maxxum, MK 330 charger, H’bird 898 SI/DI on bow and console and Detwiler hydraulic jackplate.
Then you can see the new padded carpet on entire front deck.
These pictures were taken a few years back, the boat/trailer pic in 2015. Carpet was last year or so.
Good luck, use the info On NADA as a starting point. You could move your question over to the main board here instead of “garage sale” for more opinions. But very few others are familiar with the older Eyra.
Sorry for slow response. Yes, they are still available.
Jackets are still for sale as of 12/19…a little “too” big! These are “big” big boy sizes.
SAYBURFTD:
I was quoted around $7500 for a new trailer with a swing tongue.
Hopefully that’s a tandem axle. After ordering a replacement trailer in single axle , I will never make that mistake again.
Wow, prayers for Deb and your family. Glad to read she’s getting better. Just got the news from Shelby this week when she saw your daughter’s update on Deb.
BillBo:
Any thoughts about creating a new forum category for “service bulletins” which would be reserved only for IMPORTANT recurring mechanical issues?
This could be very helpful to folks that buy a used boat without any idea what problems they might encounter for a particular model year. Yes there is info out there but it is not easy to sort through old posts the vast majority which are irrelevant and the search may not find anything if the exact words are not found. Two prime examples are the leaky gas tank valve for newer model years and torsion axle idler arm bolts that like to get loose which can cause expensive axle damage. So many other potential topics like vault hubs, brake issues, etc, etc.
Just a suggestion.
Because they rarely have recurring mechanical issues. Ninety nine percent of the time it’s an owner issue most likely…overfill of the fuel tank, filling too fast, wrong angle. Or hitting curbs, potholes; forgetting to unhook emergency cable from truck when storing trailer or pinching brake lines. Still, the one percent of the time that it is not the owner’s or family’s fault… crickets…
I agree with unravels, check your insurance to see if you have “no fault” coverage. If so, you’ve most likely covered it closer in value and your insurance agent can talk through the process. Then they can bill the other insurance . It would still take a while but you would be less out of pocket and as he said, shouldn’t count against you.
BillBo, I agree, FAQ could use a lot more organization and sections such as “trailer maintenance bulletins”, “boat maintenance”, “general topics”(old tournaments etc., and “history lessons”. It is outdated, jumbled and imho, pointless in a FAQ unless it’s in a specific section if someone wants to scroll through. But that’s going to take too much time with the volume of information they have put out.
Didn’t say overfill was the reason for the gas valve leaks. As you mention though, looking through old threads, there’s a lot of discussion about overfill years ago. As fishermen would sometimes fill too fast or try to top off for those long runs. A lot of discussion going back to the 90s and earlier.
As SLumpp said, a good idea to get a complete brake inspection before initial towing if it’s been a while since service. Also a good time to really check out the system on the 08 trailer for any leaks or issues with that system as well. It kind of boils down to how much towing/driving will be expected out of the SUV.
Finally, with the information given on the Mitsubishi Outlander V6, towing cap is 3500 lbs-is there a “towing package” option that you have on the vehicle? Engine oil cooler, transmission cooler, etc? Does the SUV have the stock size tire/wheel package, as upsizing may effect performance?
Just a few more observations from the sidelines. If I had a “do over” I would have gotten a little bigger SUV for my wife so we could tow the camper with my truck and our other toys with her SUV…motorcycle/trailer, bicycles, kayaks/canoe trailer.
There’s no owner manual per se’ on the old boats. If you have one of the “super dash” computer dashes instead of analog gauges, there are manuals for those.
Any other questions on older models you’ll find a lot of answers quicker by checking out the FAQ section as most of these guys are running newer.
Having run a 96 Eyra, if you think that 19 pitch was scootin wait til he can get a 22 or 23 loaded up properly.
