It is under warranty until 2011 and Pops Marine in Torno VA is the closet dealer to me but he is Merc? It is a Yamaha Prop and thrust washer. 297 hours on engine. I turned it into a Yamaha repair shop yesterday near Lake Anna VA for evaluation under warranty. Would you like me to get it back. My Puma has to go to POPS anyway for other issues that Scott and I have already worked out. Let me know. I was supposed to be a boat captain in support of a handicap youth day on Sept 8th and again on Sept 9th for a VA state youth tournament. I am just trying my best to get back on the water by then. Thanks BCB !!!Jim
Jim, It will have to be handled as they are by the Yamaha dealer. It sounds like they are following protocal and procedure. As for Pops, you are right as they are Yamaha and can not assist you here. Yamaha may come back and say that you did not check tension on the propeller and it may have been loose. This is a good argument as the thrust washer rests inside of a confined area and it could have split due to an impact. The confined area holds it into the propeller hub and that restricts the side play on that thrust washer. Since you have warranty through 2011, they will be favorable to your position. Pending that your gearcase and propeller or shaft have not got any damages. Just keep working with your Yamaha dealer and please tell them Thank You from us for handling this properly and taking care of a BCB Owner.BCB
On Robs advice I called Sanderson Prop and he was right. They have seen 3 or 4 in the past two summers. Yamaha has replaced the brass with a new material. Coat for a thrust washer is now about 160.00. Imagine that!
Jim, I about fell out of the truck when Robbie told me the price of that washer. Have you checked your oil pump by the way?…theres a bulletin out for replacement
Jim, if you get this, send me an email at [email protected]
When this washer goes out does in allow the prop to sink in and sher some of the housing on the bullet. I had one go out and had to pay 325 to for a new carriage inside the lower unit.
You are right Lawson101. Thats what happend to mine. I am waiting on the dealer to contact Yamaha. I have a feeling I will either need anger management classes or some kind of medacation realy soon. Rob the E-mail is on the way. Good info on the pump, I will have them check on it.
By the way Gabe, Why did you have to pay for the repair? Out of warranty or no warranty? thanksJim
Had customer with a Yamaha motor he bought a 27 tempest I put all hard ware on that was suppose to go and it mushroomed the thrustwasher. He took it were he bought motor to get fixed and I paid the bill.
